Vigilante

I have been wanting this for a long time. Imagine if TES series would let you create a vigilante. Since Skyrim is all about play how you want to play if would be amazing if they could get something like this to work. Imagine this scenario; say you walk through a town or village in plain clothes and do nothing. You leave and come back in your armor and nobody recognizes you, you end up saving someone from a pack of wolves which causes you to gain renown. If you leave and come back in plain clothes no one will react but if you came back in that same attire then people would recognize you as a hero (or villain depending on how you want to play.) BUT if you change in front of everyone then you loose that renown and it has no effect. Thoughts?

Never played previous titles, but in Morrowind and Oblivion you could deal with all kinds of "threats" in any way you saw fit without involving the official law. Doesn't get any more vigilante then that.

It's not a matter of taking law into your own hands but doing so and being recognized for it. It's simple, you show up in town in your armor, steal something or kill someone and people will be afraid of you. But if you leave and come back with the armor off, no one will react.

Sorta like a Skyrim version of Batman.

I don't think the NPC/character reaction is THAT advanced.

This actually somewhat happened when you donned the Mask of the Gray Fox in Oblivion. It's about as close as any game came to the situation you described. The item actually had an attached amount of infamy and bounty to it and would be applied to you when you wore it. If you did other crimes while wearing it, the infamy and bounty would go up (if I remember right).

It's not out of the realm of possibilities this could be modded into Skyrim via specific named items; I doubt it would work with any generic iron armor pieces for example.

THIS. But it wouldn't be limited to one item.
