NPCs Behavior Pattern Detection in Skyrim

Post » Sat Sep 24, 2011 9:06 am

Should there be some NPCs that can detect unusual behavior? Give me your ideas and suggestions with lengthy or detailed explanations and gaming community I will gladly read and reply. Give me good criticism if you can, but if you cannot help the urge ill accept your bad criticism, its good for the learning process. Maybe with enough hope, support and attention this concept can be a reality.

Thank you gaming community

Those are good ideas but it'd have to be implemented well. All the comments I got from people who reacted to my high character skills/attributes got really cheesy really fast (How would a complete stranger know I was good at lockpicking??)

I honestly don't trust bethesda to implement that AI well enough to add to gameplay. It would be cool though.

Q#1: Voted "maybe, leaning towards yes". It would get old if NPCs reacted the same way EVERY TIME my character performed a suspicious action.

Q#2: voted for staring, known history of stealing, known history of violence, always found aroudn restricted areas, sneaking up on NPCs from behind, talking to NPCs while carrying a weapon, and race. Being undressed, wearing dark clothes, jumping from rooftops, etc. shouldn't automatically cause a reaction. That would get old quick.

Q#3: NO. Assuming none of this stuff was in the game as of now, there's no way they could add it in convincingly. Just not enough time.

Q#4: Yes it is possible this could be in the game. Some of this was in Oblivion, albeit on a more primitive level with reactions to 100% vampires, negative disposition reactions, psychic guards, etc.

I think things like fixation should be a point for people to start being curious as well as travel into restricted areas, but we always have to draw a line between what would be fun and annoying. If you have a favorable relationship with the NPC you're "stalking", there should be no cause for suspicion. I definitely think wearing OBVIOUSLY EVIL CLOTHING should be cause for alarm, as well as anything shrouding your face in a less than densely packed area. Even if there are no guards around, people seeing you lingering in an area should force you to leave as they did if you stayed in a shop too long in Oblivion.

People apparently do react to your weapon being drawn and reactions to your character being nvde wouldn't be something new (unless I'm thinking of another game series). People reacting to seeing you sneak would be nice.

in Oblivion i was free to roam where ever i wanted to in darkbrotherhood armor and at any time of day i wanted and i was never questioned or deemed a suspicious person. (took the excitement out of it a little bit)

the only time i was ever asked about my suspicious activity was way bak in morrowind (when it 1st released) i was doing a quest for the thieves guild, and i tried to join the fighters guild, the female NPC said to me "you are acting a bit strange ... it would seem you will need to make a serious choice what guild you want to be loyall to, how you handle this quest will be proof of whom you stand beside!"

and later when i finaly found caius he came right out and said "ive heard of your crimes, you should watch your step!"

and who could forget the talk with Sharn gra-Muzgob and she INSISTS she knows NOTHING of necromancy and she steers VERY CLEAR of admiting to having ANY involvement with necromancy ... even tho she had written a BOOK ON IT!
come to think of it that book was in a chest right next to her .. and if you confront her about it she even gave you a FREE spell to KEEP your mouth shut about it ...

NPC's should have some very serious anger and discust and hunt down and behead ANY people that might be involved with Necromancy

citizens have a right to defend themselves against the Guards if the guards are acting inapropriately ... we should be eble to defend ourselves in a court of LAW before being sentenced to Jail time ... and have proper representation if we are accused of comiting a crime.
if you are infact found guilty then you should have bad rewards that go beyond jail time ...

1st
2nd
and 3rd offences ... should be recorded and documented blocking you from certain aspects of the comunities freedoms

this type of AI would only need to be applied in the dialog, i dont think this would be hard, but im not a programmer so idk the details involved
