No Attributes

Post » Sat Sep 24, 2011 10:34 am

I've seen many people make lists or explain what are some bad things about Skyrim. I've heard the fact that attributes are not going to be added to this game said many times. I am just wondering, what exactly is bad about this? I am not saying that it is a bad thing, or good thing. I just want to hear some arguments.

I can live without them, but I would have preferred to leave them in. Simply because it allows me to roleplay as a smart, weak person or a strong, dumb person. This appears to be no longer possible.

Edit: It really doesn't bother me though.

I am a little confused. What do you mean by "leave them in"? Were they originally going to be in Skyrim but they were removed later?

I hated Oblivion's and Morrowind's system, but I think an attribute system in some capacity would have been nice. I'm not all that bothered by it's removal though.

Honestly it didn't matter to me at all at first, then it seemed a little too simplified the more I thought about it. Maybe it won't even be noticeable once you start playing.

The removal of anything is bad. They should just add stuff and never take anything away. We need attributes in order for our characters to have any depth and for TES to remain an RPG. Skills and perks are not enough. Without attributes TES is now an action game.

I don't understand. When was it removed?

I think it all comes down to stats being a traditional staple of RPGs. The more stats you have the easier it is to personalize your character. At least that's the common belief. Bethesda would have us believe we can get the same results with just three stats. We won't know if they're right until we play the game for ourselves.

It is just another part of the simplification process and mainstreaming that they are trying to make Skyrim more approachable to everybody. It takes away an extra dimension of character development. They could have left the attributes in and created a way to have the attributes to work with the perks. Like something like reduce weight set for like 50 or 75 strength, something like that.

But isn't Skyrim a brand new game?

They are a series, so people expect mechanics to carry over from one game to the next.

The last Elder Scrolls game was Oblivion, and it had attributes in it. I would have preferred for this system to be left in the series.

Yes things should be added and older things should be improved that makes sense.

1. Attributes were not removed- they were merged. So basically amount of attributes were decreased. (Although some attributes were removed- Luck and Personality)

2. Functionality mostly remained, so I must play the game for final decision on this.

3. Must admit, that I dislike idea of removal of anything, because at this point it seems that instead of fixing good concept (and yes it was broken), they simply replace it with more primitive one :(

I guess you don't understand but there are attributes, three of them. this new system does the same things as the system in previous titles (except maybe luck) but STREAMLINED it.

I guess Morrowind was a piece of [censored] then. It had huge amounts of the series removed.

Does Speed fall under Stamina now, or is Speed pretty much fixed in place?
What about magica regeneration rate and magic resistance?
