Locking doors

Post » Sun Sep 25, 2011 10:34 am

Should the ability to lock doors be added into skyrim? For thoes of you who like to sneak into a home and kill a person but get annoyed when they run out the front door. Would also be useful in keeping people out of rooms. In OB i constantly had to chase people out of their house and end up having to kill the guards also. I would like to hear your opnion of this idea

I've frequently used the console to lock doors in OB, justifying it ICly by saying that he locked it, jammed it shut, used a spell, etc.

it would be possible for them to allow locking with spells

and to make it so you dont exploit the lockpick skill, have it set to your key thats undropable

Can that really be considered an exploitation? If you constantly locked your door and picked it for practice, you're gonna get better at picking that lock. Seems like a silly reason to remove a spell.

Good point. but some nerds would sit there and farm top skill lock picking.. and pwn every lock in the game. haha

This is absolutely a good idea. In Oblivion, it made no apparent sense that guards could chase you into your own house if you were fleeing them. Adding this option would give house ownership the added function of an escape from persecution. It could be implemented through a magic spell or through some reverse-lockpicking system, both of which would go towards skills.

If Bethesda took it a step further, we could have guards who attempt to break into your house, and they may or may not fail depending on their security skill.

Doesn't really make for much of a challenge if every time you get in trouble you can just lock the door and relax.

For example guards are chasing you and you can just lock them into a room or go through any door and seal it off?

Monsters are after you but you lock a door and they can't follow you any more? Your safe? End of threat?

If you want to keep your victim from escaping, just paralyze them.

Now, this would be fun if you could lock a door, or move a dresser in front of it to clog it up for a bit, then they would have to break the door down to get in, but it would be too much work for them to pull off especially with cells. Maybe in TES6 when they get rid of door teleports to cells we could do something like this.

Did you read my suggestion? Implement it for houses that you own, not just random houses you can run into. It'd provide a little refuge, and perhaps you could grab some extra potions/weapons from your containers before going outside to meet the fight again. You wouldn't be able to stay in forever, not only if they went with my guard-lockpicking idea, but because you can't fast travel from within your house, so you'd have to come out eventually.

Coming out would be even more inevitable if Perez Hilton was an NPC.
