what does ICC.esp do? : Fallout: New Vegas

i DLed and put it in my game, but i am now reducing my mods and i am trying to find out what it does.
i tried googling it and no help
i also tried bing, and no help
same for nexus
the author didn't bother to put a read me in his file either.

According to the Nexus, icc.esp (Immortal Companion Code) sets all your companions as essential, even in hardcoe mode.
