Sammu's ACTUAL Eurogamer impressions (finally)

Post » Tue Sep 27, 2011 4:47 am

You heartless bastard! :cryvaultboy:

Haha, I'm going to plead the Fifth and say people told me to do it.

EDIT: @might be a couch:
1)I didn't see the animations, I was too busy hiding! I think it was pretty standard though. I'm not sure they even had their weapons out at the first stage of alertness.
2) Yep, full-on crawling on hands and knees to get away from me. I was really pleased to find out it wasn't just a long-winded death animation - after a while she gathered the strength to actually get up and flee a short way further. Then she dropped to hands and knees and crawled a bit further, with an arrow sticking out of her chest and one out of her skull.

Level up mid-combat? :(

It's the player's choice to go to the level up screen, it's not forced.

Putting out torches! Amazing AI and Stealth! Thanks Sammu! That first person finisher sounds awesome too.

How big was the cave you were in? Did you leave because of time constraints, or was it that small?

1. I saw a guy in a cave putting out torches in their sconces along the wall - probably for stealth purposes

2. I crept into Riverwood and stuck an arrow in her head, which didn't kill her (damn lack of location damage)

1. AWESOME if we can actually effect lighting to help with stealth, yes it's been done before in many games but duh, for a good damn reason it brings a lot to the table when the PC can effect lighting to thier advantage!

2. I 100% agree and I know the more I see those kinds of archery animations the more I'm going to dislike Skyrim, nothing ruins immersion or hell lets just say it INSULTS YOUR COMMON SENSE like a NPC charging at you or fleeing from you with a 2 foot wooden shaft buried through thier right eye. I'm also a stickler for those times when you one shot a NPC but upon closer inspection you hit thier hand or foot which leaves you thinking "WTF bethesda in game marriage before this?" :banghead:

I'm super stoked and both your threads have been insanely more informative then every Skyrim preview any mag has written so my hat goes off to you. I'm really hoping ALL fires can be manipulated to increase stealth gameplay

Glad you weren't disappointed after all the build-up! The cave was definitely bigger than the area I saw - there was a wooden http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bascule_bridge off the side of the walkway, but I couldn't figure out how to lower it, and I was in a rush, so I left.

Haha, how did I overlook that!? In short, it was in a different league to everything else at the show. Far and away the best game there. In a very distant second was Rage - published by none other than Bethesda!

It was fantastic, and the wait until 11.11.11 now feels 10 times as long.

Putting out torches! Finally! Hope it's not just cosmetic.

Hopefully that means dungeons will actually be dark. Otherwise putting out a torch wouldn't make much of a difference, if the cave is still unnaturally bright. :P

Wow sammu, that was a great read mate. I appreciate the effort....thankyou kindly.

Stealth sounds awesome. Bar far my favorite play-style,even more so given the information you've given us ( perks included ).
Putting out torches/light is an exellent touch...one i wished was in oblivion. Too much stuff to talk about really....great job man.
I can see alot of people on here taking some bad things back they said about the game/or dumbing down.

I actually feel spoilt to know this, thankyou.

Oh,good job on the other threads also.

"I looked awesome" << i loved that bit, that matters to most of us here.

Where you brought up by elephants?....that's some memory mate. :)

How did the Bow feel when you used it and good read on the Stealth aspects. I'm definitely playing as a Rogue type character my 1st time through.

Awesome read. Thanks for taking the time!

The only thing I didn't like in the read was leveling up mid-battle. I think leveling up should be when you sleep. Leveling up mid-battle seems like an immersion breaker. For example, imagine being mid-battle and your health depleting, and then all of a sudden the action freezes so you can level up and add points to your health. Just seems lame. Not a fan of that.

That was one exciting read!
About the fur armour you picked up, you describe it as only a skirt & trousers but we know cuirass and greaves have been merged. Did it occupy the cuirass slot even though you were shirtless?

Could have been for demo only and Sammu said that level up can be done whenever. He chose to do it mid combat.

Nah, it's not in the demo only. It happens the first time your health is low. Just like in Oblivion.
