Registry transfer

Post » Thu Sep 03, 2009 1:26 am

Here's the situation: I have Windows XP and Windows 7 installed on my PC. I first installed Morrowind on the XP side, but later I decided to switch all my activities to Windows 7. But since Morrowind was running without problems on the Win 7 side, I decided not to re-install it.

But these days, I use TEStool more often and I'm trying to update my MGE 3.8.0 to 3.8.2 rev178. So the fact that the registry doesn't list the installation folder of Morrowind is becoming quite a problem.

The question is, can I simply transfer Morrowind's registry entry from WinXP to Win7? Or are the two OS too different to make such a transfer?

Never been so happy to double post! Found my solution. :3

Pretty simple in fact. I just had to run everything as Admin, start the Morrowind Launcher, change the resolution in the options and then start MGE.
Found this neat trick in the wiki at Sourceforge.

I'm still curious to know if the registry transfer is possible, but at least it's not a problem anymore.

I havent done this personally, but it will work and not break anything. That is assuming everything in the first post is taken literally. Means you do not try to transfer Morrowind entries created by windows installer. Unlikely, they are hidden, but who knows.. people do strange things.
