As far as I understand equipment can get worse, but cannot break anymore
At least that's how I understand new system

apparently, many people found it tedious to keep track or item health. Next to go is health, mana and stamina since that's too tedious to keep track of too

Well, that's the whole point of RPG; keeping track of stats, but ever since TES went console they are stripping, or like Bethesda like to call it "streamlining" the game.
