A Stealth Concern

Post » Mon Sep 26, 2011 9:49 pm

I love playing a stealth character, and while you still need to know how to use a weapon (for assassinations and other stealthy wet work) I find myself wondering how a dedicated stealth character is expected to take down a dragon. The ordinary sneak up from behind and shank method doesn't seem like it would work terribly well on any kind of flying monster much less one that can breathe fire. The only thing I can think of is maybe some kind of guerilla tactics using a bow and possibly some poisons that would paralyze the dragon. If anyone else shares this concern or has some creative ideas on how to bring down a dragon using stealth I'd love to hear it.

Random thought: If you paralyze a flying dragon will it fall from the sky like a rock, glide down (as the wings are presumably stretched out), or will it not effect flight all?

Well, you can't sneak up on something that is in the air most of the time, or perched precariously on the tip of a rock. You're going to have to branch out a bit- maybe summon something to get the dragon's attention while you stealth and wait for it to land.

I don't think paralyze will work that far away.

In Skyrim you have companions.

Use them to get the dragon down from the air.

Then sneak in for the kill xD

I think a stealthy character will have to rely on other skills to take down dragons...like marksman or something. That's just how it is.
Maybe if the dragon is distracted, you can hide and get a jump on it?

dragons cant fly forever, they have to stop and rest, when that happens clip thier wings with a x15 sneak attack useing daggers, a good rogue should be able to handle it from there

Distractions and poisons will be our best friend in my opinion. That, and a little innovation. Pick your fights carefully and use the terrain to your advantage. Stealth characters will probably have to use their minds more than any other character when facing dragons.

You don't paralize one either.

Kiting is a term primarily encountered in MMORPGs referring to a popular method of killing mobs (monsters) or other players by staying at a distance, using ranged attacks, and running whenever the enemy comes near. Similar tactics may be used in other computer and video games.

Shouts, for you are dragonborn. Everyone keeps forgetting that these shouts are probably the most effective way of damaging a dragon.

Archery is most likely a key weapon for a stealthy player. There is a perk that slows down time when zoomed, so that will be useful when the dragon is in the air. Combine this with shouts and poisons, and you might have a winning menajahtwa.

Ill be playing a stealth character myself and im gonna be specializing in the daggers for stealth close qaurters kills and a bow for ranged sneak kills so im gonna use a bow for dragons most likely.

Good point on the shouts. It's likely due to the fact that we haven't played and don't have a full confirmed list of the different effects that we keep forgetting about them in these hypothetical situations.
