Lamps and candles

Post » Tue Sep 27, 2011 1:04 am

As I played Morrowind i always ended up slaughtering some rich guy and using his house as a museum to collect all my cool artifacts. I enjoyed placing the games many candles all around, lighting the room and making cool displays. however, in Oblivion, the ability to place lanterns and candles that are lit into the environment to create more light was removed.

I would like to know if anyone has any information as to if this is in the game, or not.

thanks

We don't know whether they're placeable yet, but there're definitely more sources of light than in Oblivion.

The lack of interesting, placeable lighting options for Oblivion was perhaps my third largest complaint about the game. It's always a shame to see something like that go in favor of... what... blocking? Pumpkins?

I don't really know why they chose to go that route. I only hope they know it was a mistake... and bring back candles and lanterns and such.

Are placing light sources really that much of a big deal?

Maybe not a big deal, but the ability to setup your environment the way you like it is no bad thing.

To some it is. I love having my own space. A house that is my own. In Morrowind they didnt "sell" houses. i killed someone and took it. I loved making displays. The main thing i did in that game was collect dwaven artifacts. cups, gears, coins....everything. i called my self an archaeologist even as the custom class. i couldnt really do that in oblivion cause dwarves where gone. i hope its back now

But it's not really a huge concern is it? The devs could be doing more important things than creating portable light sources

Yes. Yes they are.

Trust me... until you've decked out your dimly lit den in red candles with the chanting whispers of Sithis in the background, you haven't -lived- like a real assassin. It's a big deal. Vision and scent are two of the strongest senses, when it comes to things like eliciting emotion or memory. It even works in a video-game.

It would seem that we can at least (or last) knock over said lamps and start fires that actually set someone on fire as well! ;)
