HH Flight From Zion -- Player Controls Disabled

Post » Thu Sep 03, 2009 2:55 pm

My experience with Honest Hearts was glitch-free until the very end, where I literally got stuck. It was at the end of "Flight From Zion". Daniel just gave me the detonator and the screen went dark. Then I saw a bunch of messages (e.g. Joshua Graham left party), given various objects, etc. When the scene was visible again, I could not move my character. It was like a cut-scene was supposed to start, but it never did.

I went to the console and ran GetPlayerControlsDisabled, and saw that the following were all disabled: Movement, Looking, PipBoy, and POV Switch.

Fortunately, I was able to to run EnablePlayerControls, and that appears to have fixed the problem. I haven't seen any ill effects that were obviously caused by it, at any rate.

Don't know what caused the problem. I thought it might be caused by a mod, but I disabled them all and tried again, and still found myself frozen in place after I was given the detonator.

I still have a saved game that I can use to reproduce the problem, so let me know if I can help to diagnose things. I'm just glad that I'm running the game on a PC and have access to the console, and that I remembered seeing the EnablePlayerControls command in a list!

This happend to me the first time I played through Honest Hearts, I thought it was a glitch too.

Turns out this is supposed to happen, after all the messages and the screen becomes visible again you have to click your left mouse button twice to bring up the detonator and then use it to exploding the tunnel.

(This is what I did to get out of what I first thought was a glitch, it should really be automatic and not have to have the player do this. Hopefully that this will get changed in a patch to try and reduce the confusion it can cause.)

Hope this helps.

Well I'll be dipped... It worked! Thank you!

I can't say I like that design choice very much. (Okay, I don't like it at all.) This really should be addressed before the next patch. If they conclude that freezing the player on the spot really is necessary, they should at least make sure the player's hand and detonator are visible -- that would probably have prompted me to fire. Maybe it's more obvious in third-person...

Thanks again!
