Honest hearts crashing

Post » Fri Sep 04, 2009 6:15 am

The title says it all. every time i try to go to Zion i get to watch the opening cinematic for Honest Hearts. after it's done Jeb or Jed or whatever his name is starts giving his lines and the game freezes at the same place every time. i've tried the solutions in the sticky a dozen times, i've dried deleting the game and reinstalling i've tried everything i can think of to get it to work. i'm not running any mods or anytihng. i'm just curious if anyone else was having this problem and what they did to get rid of it.

Try turning off hardcoe mode or minimizing hardcoe rate mods if you have them. I'm pretty sure vanilla hardcoe rates would not be severe enough to crash your game but I don't know. I know the trip takes around 10-15 days and I've seen my character die and game crash when too much time passes. This might explain the crashing issue for anymore who mods their game a lot.

Same here. After the Honest Hearts intro movie, I got a CTD, no matter what I'm trying: verifying game cache, deleting ini.files... I even reinstalled the game from scratch, but nothing helps.

I mentioned disabling hardcoe mode but that doesn't work. I'm not sure what exactly is the problem to be honest. I've been able to make it without the crash but I'm still not completely sure what I'm doing different. If you have a timescale mod I would have reverting the time scale to the game default 30. Also for sure fire all your followers. Your not suppose to be able to take followers to Zion and if you have a mod that allows you to have more than the default amount you won't even be forced to fire the extras. I don't think Jed said anything about it. So make sure you go by yourself cause bringing any followers is just asking for the game to crash. I did completely reinstall my game before I ever got it to work. A number of things are different for me. First I did that re-validating game cache files and that made things worse. I then noticed that a lot of mods after that caused graphical glitches and lockups that didn't happen before that could have been contributing to the crashing in Honest Hearts. I would avoid using a Merge Patch. What I mean is when you use FNVedit to make a merge patch of all you mods it creates a esp that compiles all you mods esm masters. For some reason the graphic glitch I was having had something to do with some of my other ems being master files. I ended up removing a mod called A World Of Pain (ironic name if you ask me) because it had something to do with the problem by adding a lot of new content to existing areas. I also use IWS and Monster Mod and had to delete a merge patch I was using for them. IWS and Monster mod work fine by the way if your using those. Anyway I'm not sure what else to tell you. If your not using those mods and your not having graphical problem I wouldn't worry about your mods. Just try to make sure you don't have any followers and you are not using custom time scale values. 30 is the default.

Oh make sure you back up all your files in the data folder and your saves if you install. Textures and everything so you can have a clean install and still not lose anything. My games lag and ctd are way down now that I've kinda clean things up a bit.

BTWi got 1 extra mod installed ; WH 40K conversion

Exactly the same here. I have a slightly different problem, it loads OK but then when I click continue it crashes, but its totally random. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And I decided to start a new game and one of the old bugs where Cheyenne has its eyes on the side of its head reappeared when I first go into Goodsprings, and then about 5 minutes later the eyes were in the right place.

Oh now its not working at all. Just goes to the main screen select either load, continue or new game and it crashes. And as a bit more of a kick in the head, windows decided to automatically apply compatibility settings to steam too, and nothing is checked in the settings box so it now whinges that its not recommended. Yay. Joy. Its stumbling from one catastrophe to another.

CT_Tarantula_NL

Have you tried updating the drivers for your hardware, strongly suggest checking update for the graphics. Also, if you haven't already, disable the mod and see if it still crashes.

Hope this helps.

Yep, its all up to date BUT I seem to have found a sort of fix for the non loading for saves, all I did was start a new game, when you start in the Docs office hit escape select load and then load the save you wanted. Works every time but the damned thing still crashes randomly all over the place.

I had completely forgotten about that little trick, it saved me many times in fallout 3 :P

I've had similar issues with my whole game. I just recently reinstalled Windows XP on my comp due to a worm making it pretty much unuseable so I have barely anything taking up harddrive space and I start playing FONV and it usually doesn't have issues when I first start up but after about 10 minutes the audio will sometimes cut out or be delayed and then all come rushing back at loading screens for building, not to mention I have issues for some quests that require you to sit down ( Dead Money with Dean, the opening scenes with the stats boards etc) I can sit but I have to go back and forth between the pause menu about 4 times before it actually shows me sitting. Then after some time has pass playing the game sometimes when loading things while walking outside it'll freeze up and require a computer reboot as it won't let me force quit or tab out.And more recently HH is crashing EVERY single time I get to the area where you get attacked by the Yao Guai. Did everything I assume I had to up to that point, I have the companion killed all the White Legs that attacked me including the one across the bridge then he tells me about the view of the river and when I get to the bottom of the hill the game just tabs out and says FONV needs to quit for unknown reasons etc. And now that I think about it sometimes when outside and heading to an area I KNOW will have enemies (or allies for that matter) sometimes I'll go there loot the items quick save and quit then reload and I'm surrounded. I've since learned to make frequent quicksaves before going to an area and loading it up just to be safe but its still annoying.

Windows XP in 2011? I don't think producers tests games in XP anymore. At least extensively. Nowadays anything is XP related is considered obsolete.

Turned out this was my problem too, after all. So, issue has been resolved for me.

The dlc may be conflicting with other mods that you have activated.
As mentioned previously, disable all your mods and re-activate them one at a time and you may find a specific one that interferes with HH.
