Addicting 3rd Person Movement

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2011 2:19 pm

I must say that Skyrim's movement animations look damn good and I think I am going to want to play 3rd person most of the time while I'm travelling, using only 1st person while talking to someone or fighting something/someone. You?

First-person view ALWAYS for me. Except for when the game forces the view to third-person view for the finishing moves.

I hope I'll never be forced to quit 3rd person. I never liked the 1st but had to use it for aiming and picking up items. Hopefully with adjustable 3rd person camera you can pan around and third person crosshair it won't be a problem any longer.

I like to switch between the two when travelling around, but I always use first person for fighting.

While not in combat, outside caves, dungeons, cities, houses, I use 3rd person.

I prefer first person there is already enough RPGs that are 3rd person however I do like that horse riding is in 3rd person eventhough I won't be using a horse ever.

Unless your not gunna pick locks be prepared to be disappointed. Lol it urks me slightly that there are more instances of forced third person than forced first person, not really a primarily first person game then aih.

I'm a 3rd person gamer. I don't play any 1st person games. Skyrim has me pretty excited.

Always both. Third for town and travelling (and saving, oh the vanity), first for swimming and dungeon crawling.
Once you get used to third person combat in OB, it's fine outdoors. And it might be just me, but the power attacks feel easier to pull off in third.

I'm not going to be using a horse ever specifically because it forces third person. I think that it goes without saying that I intend to use first person whenever possible.

IMO 3rd person view while on a horse is the better option, I never cared to use 1st person while riding a horse in OB, just to see the horse's head moving up and down. IMO forced 3rd person view while riding a horse make it seem like you're in a movie or something, in the movies they always show people/heroes riding something in 3rd person from a far distance. Makes riding a horse seem more epic.

How does forced third person improve over optional third person in that regard? I don't want to feel like I'm in a movie, I want to feel like I'm in a world, staring through my character's eyes.

Yea, I play 3rd person 75% of the time in Oblivion, and Skyrim will be no different. I even do bow & arrow fights and magic in 3rd person, as I grew up with tabletop RPGs and lead figureines, and I like seeing this perspective in a videogame.

I only switch to 1st when I need to get a better look into a room, or to find an object I've dropped, etc. If I used 1st all the time, I'd always hit (especially long-distance attacks) which gets boring.

I agree it looks better in Skyrim but I'm a first person player because it puts me *in* the game instead of watching a toon run around in the game. I don't buy those kinds of games. It's just personal preference and I'm really glad we have the choice. I'll switch to third when I want a broader view for some reason but I'm a firstie.

And I don't think third is stupid...play what you like. :)

I go back in forth between the two.1st is needed for ranged attacks but is suicide for me with melee. Third person all the way for me in close combat. Moving around and exploring I go back and forth. I think one of the smartest things Bethesda did was make it so easy to go between them. I absolutely love the ability to pan around and see your character from any angle also.
