Newbie needs help with training and leveling up! :)

Greetings, fellow Elder Scrolls fan! How are you all today? :)

Anyway, as the topic states, I have no idea how to level up in this game. It seems simple enough but, being a newbie to these games, I need your help in regards to this problem. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, as I'm stuck on level 3. For instance, I maxed out the number of times I could train with a particular trainer on level 3(it was a girl, saying she could help me train for Armorer for different amounts of cash), but I don't know what to do after that! II tried sleeping in a bed, as I heard if your trainer stats are maxed out you'll advance to the next level, but to no avail! What am I missing? I was led to believe that, if you max out any sort of ability(s) with a trainer, you'll advance to the next level. What should I do now?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

You won't level up until you have raised a combination of Major Skills 10 times. If armorer was a Major, then that's five of the ten skill-ups you need to reach the next level.

On the other hand, there is no advantage to leveling quickly in this game. Raise the skills you need to survive, and try not to level up faster than those skills go up.

A bit of advice: Don't post your Email in public.

Thanks for the help, but the problem is no matter which trainer I look to, it says I've maxed out on them already, 5 out of 5, even though I haven't trained with them. Or maybe I should just go look for another trainer, maybe I did use them already? I recall using a combination of different skills on two different trainers...

Also, where do I find what my Major skills are, and how much more I need to raise until the next level? Thanks! :)

Glargg gave you good advice and information.

You can train only 5 times with a trainer (any trainer). After that you get the message that you have reached your 5 allowed. OK? So, if you want to reach level 4 you must "self train" 5 times in a Major Skill. It's written: Major Skills, Minor Skills, Miscellaneous Skills. Only Major Skills brings you to higher levels in Oblivion (not like Morrowind where Minors are similar to Majors for that purpose). If you are a warrior usually Armorer, Long Blade, Blunt Weapon etc. are in Major Skills. As you have alaready trained 5 times in Armorer (Major Skill) you must now trained 5 times in Long Blade or Blunt Weapon by fighting against ennemies or summoning a skeleton or else and fight it until you increase you skill and get the message to go to sleep... It's only when you get that message that you can level up. Glargg is right telling you not to lecel up too quickly. Before you get the message, be sure to have self trained 10 times in other Minor or Misc. skills governed by Attributes likes Mysticism, Illusion. etc. So that you can put 5 points to your prefered attributes. Restoration being important for healing, protecting etc, be sure to put each time 5 points when you level up. Welcome.
