Questions about Word Walls

Post » Thu Sep 29, 2011 7:20 pm

1. Is a Wall specific to a word (you can only learn word A from Wall A, Word B from Wall B and so on) or to the order (The first Wall you visit always contain Word A, the Second Wall contain Word B and so on) ?

2. Is Word Wall another Oblivion Gate? I don't think dragons will be since fighting with them won't be as long as going through Oblivion Gates but since Walls are fixed to a place - Most likely dungeons with enemies guarding it....I can see people on their 5th or more playthrough thinking "Alright, Here I have to go through this Dungeon again to learn a word...." Much like going into Oblivion Gates to get the Sigil Stones....

Speculation is welcome....thank you...

I think it's you can only go to Wall X to learn Word X, rather than it just happening in order. May be wrong though.

From previews some word walls aren't in dungeons, but out and about in the world. They're guarded sure, but it's not like Oblivion gate style.

No they're a lot more different than oblivion gates. You usually won't know whether or not theres a word wall in a dungeon anyways. You'll just have to go through and see for yourself.

If what I think I saw is what happened....

We saw Todd find the word wall and a word was glowing. I believe it had to do with the Storm shout. He slew the first dragon and absorbed its soul and then used the shout on the second dragon. I don't know what decided which word would glow on the wall and whether or not it would be Word A or Word B though. Maybe I'm just raising more questions.

Feel free to correct the sequence if I got that wrong.

Yeah...that's true...but what about some while after started playing...you will know which dungeons have walls and they will become Oblivion Gate after enough playthroughs...

Oblivion Gates became a chore themselves. Word Walls seem more like an extra reward at the end of a dungeon you're probably exploring for a sidequest anyway.

While we're waiting, however, my assumption would be that there's some sort of specific order to the shouts being learned.
Todd mentions in one of the video demos that the Storm Call shout is one of the more powerful shouts which you learn late in the game (or words to that effect, I can't remember exactly which video it was as he doesn't say it in the official HD video).

It's a new question so I hope he does answer. He's getting so many questions now that people are helping him to answer the repeat questions he's getting and he thanks them for it. It's only going to increase for the next 42 days.

I doubt finding word walls will feel like doing OB gates, not even after having played through the game a few times, mainly due to the gates all being almost carbon copies of eachother, having the same enemies, same reward and being mandatory for the main quest, as well as being EVERYWHERE. If things are like it seems and are dungeons are now uniquely crafted, as well as not all word walls even being inside of dungeons that should distinguish them enough to not just make it a boring grind, at least for me :>
