Spoiler I'd like to know why they murdered him. Was he corrupt? An Imperial marionette, or whatever? If their reasons are good, I won't hesitate to side with the Rebels. But if they've done it for some mad/stupid reason (pretty much like the Mythic Dawn in Oblivion)....errr....hmmm....I'd pass, thanks.
True there might be more to this story than meets the eyes.
Spoiler Sure the cloaks could say that the guy was corrupt/an Imperial puppet, when really the king just didn't want to do things the way they wanted.

has somewhat dented my loyalty to them.
hasn't really bothered me as much as it has some people. I'm certainly not
happy about it. But I'll need more convincing reasons to side with the Storm Cloaks than that.
