Viability of Stealth?

Post » Fri Sep 30, 2011 2:01 am

New to the forums so i apologize if this has been voiced before. I've looked around a bit and 27,000 posts makes reading all pretty daunting.

I prefer to play a stealth assassin type class. 100 sneak, lock pick, bow and 1h for the stabbie stabbie in the back.

In most of the ES games there are many forced encounters where a sword and board is a must and i have always felt limited in my character development by the close quarters situations that my character would not simply have walked into like a Nord meat shield.

Question being... i've seen the gameplay footage...the dragon guardians and the dragon encounters worry me. Are these going to be encounters that will lean toward the sword and board or face melt magic crowds?
I would hate to invest the time in a character only to get violated anol style by the first dragon i come across.

Any ideas, thoughts, feelings?

I think archery is in line for your character type.

Depending on backstabs for dragons will likely be a mistake. :toughninja:

my main is going to be similar to yours. Invest in alchemy to make some poisons for those arrows I'd say.

There's always a way. You will have to figure out how to beat that nasty dragon. A bow will help, Dragon Shouts will help. You can even break down and hit it with a flame spell even though you are a stealth character. When you get it to the ground, sneak up and stab it to death! HA! Good luck!

If you are anything like my stealth characters, you steal everything in sight. This grants me access to great weapons/armor early on, numerous enchanted weapons, and tons of money. You will be better equipped than others at your level, the enchanted weapons will do more damage, and you can spend your money on other enchanted items. Also, there is still a possibility that Alchemy will be useful against dragons.

Why does this always comes up?

Be creative, hide from dragons, shoot them down from cover, hide under trees, cast invisibilty, ignore dragons, I don't know...
Try to think!

I wouldn't expect dungeons to have convenient airvents you could crawl through to avoid detection but I'm sure a stealth approach will be mostly viable. :D

Bethesda, I believe has thought about archery based characters and has made sure that you are not forced to stick with the sword or magic.

This has been done three or four times before. There is a search function.

To answer the OP, your best friend is alchemy and the environment. Use them well. Also you have to remember the shouts. Dragons are the toughest enemy in the game and you are dragonborn. Therefore you have powers to actually defeat them called shouts. If you want the demo Todd played, he used many shouts to defeat the dragons, not just magic, swords or arrows.
