Rally the mod hoarders!

I am starting to fear that ElricM is down for good. Granted it has gone down for extended periods of time and then come back in the past...and I certainly hope it does so again this time. But to be blunt, an unreliable mod hosting site simply is not serving this modding community well.

So I'm putting out a call to arms....er, hard disks or DVDs or whatever. :hehe: I *know* that there are thousands and thousands of gigabytes of mods out there sitting on DVDs and backup hard drives and in Data Files directories all over the world. You have some of those!

In the words of the illustrious Naajaw:
Sons of GHF, of TESFU, my brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come, when the courage of Morrowind modders fails, when we forsake our uploads and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day! An hour of new games and shattered downloadable files when the age of Morrowind modding comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good island of Vvardenfell (and the rest of Morrowind to you folks at Tamriel Rebuilt), I bid you, stand, men of the East!

What are we to do with these mods once we track them down? Upload them to http://mw.modhistory.com of course!

Now please don't get my intentions wrong. I fear the sentiment lately has been that I am simply trying to get content on the sites I host to drive traffic and acquire ad revenue. First, I am *not* a traffic spammer! That is most definitely not my intention. I hope that it is painfully obvious to everyone that I love this community and have only ever wanted to give back to the people that have given me hundreds of hours of enjoyment in a decade old game. So as the creator and operator of MMH, I make the following pledges:

  • I will *never* overload MMH with ads. You will never be forced to spend time watching a video ad before downloading, nor will you ever be redirected to an ad before loading the page you are trying to go to.
  • Any and all ad revenue from the few ads on the site will be used for hosting and domain registration costs only.
  • There will never be any features held back from any member of MMH thus forcing them to purchase a "premium" membership.
  • Mod authors will always have full control over any of their mods on MMH. If they are registered members of GHF they will be set as the owners of the mods which gives full admin control over them.
  • If an author wishes to have their mod removed from MMH for any reason, their wishes will be honored immediately.
  • I will continually strive to improve MMH as possible, always with the end goal of making it simple for both modders and mod users.
  • As long as I have access to a computer, to the internet, and to a web server, MMH will be online and serving up mods!

Let us all work together and preserve our legacy! All modders stand on the shoulders of giants, we are simply the followers of those that came before and paved the way for the amazing creations that we are getting today. And please don't be put off by the idea that old mods aren't any good...there are hundreds of simply amazing mods I've found at MMH that I wouldn't have otherwise tried because of their age or the fact that I have never heard of the author. And ElricM is the same way; there are jewels that are at risk of being lost, and I simply won't stand for it! :toughninja:

I've got about four gig worth of mods, some of those I could only find on ElricM. Would it be worth simply making a list and seeing what needs to be uploaded or would there be a better way of doing it?

Only other thing that comes to mind is permissions of author.
