Oblivions save bug making a return?

Post » Sat Oct 01, 2011 2:39 am

So I'm a fanatical user of quicksave. I love it, except that when you use it too much it screws your game up to the point that you can only save via "new save." Is there any speculation if PC Skyrim will have the same problem?

Oof. I sincerely hope not. I'm a mad quicksaver as well, like, tap F5 every 60 seconds, and I had my main save get corrupted, which set me back to the beginning of the game - I was about 60% finished.

I wouldn't rely on any app ever to not corrupt a complex file in the MB size range over thousands of rewrites and hundreds of hours. Good to make a separate save every so often and turn that into the active one.

This time there are several quick and auto save slots. So if one gets corrupted, you have an older one as fallback. (Besides, I just did a regular save every week, to be sure)

When playing on the PC, I never use quick save, but multiple saves are a must.

No autosave?

The last autosave was at the beginning of the dungeon, but the game would glitch and crash at the same point every time. Tried reinstalling it while keeping the save files, but didn't work. No worries, I restarted the game as a Paladin.

Uh I once got the corrupted save thing too. Since then I've never overwritten a save slot again. It's safer to always use new save, and useful too, because you can always return to some point a couple saves earlier in case a mod or something breaks the game. Just to be safe I'm going to keep doing this in Skyrim.

I've had corrupted quick saves on several occasions, but more ruining was the slowing of animations that always happen after some point in the game.

That is why I don't use Auto Saves because they can easily be corrupted.

Well, on the PC the save games could be fixed by an http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5127|Oblivion when they got into slow animation mode, without invalidating the file for security reasons.

I got the slow animation bug on my first Oblivion character. I was going through a dungeon and I suddenly found doors were opening reeeeeally slowly. Then I noticed the particle effects of a dead ghost were just hanging static in the air. Fortunately the PC has Wrye Bash to get rid of that, and save game bloating. Hopefully the Bethesda programmers have sorted out their coding now... but it wouldn't be a Beth game without bugs.

???

Replaying right now, and I mash the crap out of my quicksave button. I've never had an issue in many playthroughs.

I've had a couple corrupted quick saves on the PC in ES 3/4 and fallout 3/NV, how frequent are corrupted quicksaves on xbox in those games?
