Light Armor vs. Heavy Armor

Post » Sat Oct 01, 2011 12:36 am

So I'm torn on which armor type I want to use for my first build / main character.

I have the foundation of my character decided, but I can't decide between armor types, and the accompanying playstyle.

I know what race I'm going to play: Bosmer.

I know what the foundation of my skill set is going to be: 1 handed (dual wielding), Conjuration, Illusion, Enchanting, with some dabbling in Destruction.

I know what the foundation of my RP is going to be: A character in tune with nature, and controls the creatures of nature (Illusion for Command spells), as well as summoning powerful spirits. Stealing souls to imbue my equipment with magical properties.

But I can't decide if I want to be light armored, and stealthy, as I lurk and strike from the shadows, or if I want to be a heavy armored tank that gets into the thick of things, and charges head first into battle with my minions by my side.

Both playstyles are appealing to me - I was originally a fan of stealthy, light armored characters, and that's what I played in Morrowind, and many times in Oblivion before I ended up with Khulain after numerous computer issues that led to me losing all my older Oblivion characters. And in Oblivion, when I finally just bought it on X-Box 360, and built Khulain, he was a heavy armored tank that wasn't afraid to get into the thick of things. I highly enjoy both playstyles, and the RP that would accompany either playstyle are both equally as appealing.

Light Armor has Glass Armor, which was my favorite armor set in Morrowind, but not quite as aesthetically pleasing in Oblivion. And from what I've seen of it in Skyrim, I don't think I'm going to like it as much as Morrowind, but it's still pretty sweet.

Heavy Armor has Daedric Armor, which was my favorite armor set in Oblivion. So I can't even really use an aesthetic bias for armor sets, because I like Glass Armor and Daedric Armor pretty much equally as well.

Ugh, the game hasn't even come out yet and it's already causing me dilemmas, lol.

Light armor, I can tell it fits your character just by reading the first 5 lines.

Why not both? Remember, you aren't locked into a class anymore ;)

True, but the more skills your using the harder it is to manage.

Based on the information you gave, I would say that light armor fits your playing style the best. But like Enrique Page said above you aren't locked in anymore, so why not explore?

I just can't agree with heavy armour. I think it's because I like to feel 'light on my feet'.

Bosmer are made to be rangers, ambushers, and scouts, though they can be made hard hitting tanks. Really you should decide on your personal preference. I'm sure when Skyrim comes out, images of high-end content will spam the internets in a matter of a week.

Judging by the first paragraph, light armour should fit your play style.

Depends which perks there are. In oblivion you could make light armor give as much defense as heavy armor when your skill is high enough so idk, all armor is the same in the end.

Dual weilders cannot block, so heavy armor would allow you to soak up more damage...
