i activated ED-E, talked to Johnson Nash about him but the quest doesn't start. I read on the wiki that the quest is supposed to start when you do it. Nash says he has no idea what to do with him.

any idea how i start it guys?

There's a junkyard North of Novac. Something in there set him off. I think it was talking to the junk vendor inside but I couldn't say for sure. The nature of the quest means that there might be other "triggers" out there.
