Races and choice

Post » Sat Oct 01, 2011 6:39 pm

Hey I just wanted to know why people choose the race they play as, such as a bosmer for an archer. Please tell me if you think i should add another choice in the poll.

Didn't vote because I couldn't choose both.

I actually really enjoy using characters that fit my playstyle, or how I want to interact with the world.

in my opinion people who play just for stats are lame, race stats are just that little thing extra,

The race's backstory is my primary determiner of what races I play first.

Imperials and Redguards are just awesome.

I probably should have voted "Both", but I voted "Because it looks cool and I like the backstory"

I chose Wood Elves, because I just like Wood Elves in general. The aesthetic look of the Wood Elves this time around fits what I imagine for the character.

There is a little bit of "because it fits the class" involved, but it's pretty minimal. It's hard to say I'm picking a Wood Elf because it fits the class when I am going for a Necromancer tank.

But I want to be able to command creatures as well, which is a definite Bosmer trait. In Magic: The Gathering my deck is a Green / Black reanimation deck, which is something like a "haunted forest" theme, where the Elves become corrupted by Necromancy, and sacrifice and reanimate their creatures to gain power. That's kind of what I'm going for with my Skyrim character, so my Wood Elf selection is both because I like Wood Elves, and because they fit the class.

Wood Elves WILL fit the class better if I decide to drop the Heavy Armor tank portion of the class, and replace it with Light Armor / Sneak skills, and lurk and strike from the shadows.

For me, personally, its both reasons. Most of the time I like to fashion a backstory and they are often race connected to give it more immersion in roleplaying aspect of the game. Also for some characters I find looks important, which is why I picked the "Both" choice. That being said I play all the races, some more some less, but I enjoy them all for particular styles of play and roleplay, its all important.

Both. I generally start by seeing what fits my play-style best and then choosing it if I like the way they look or their lore. Redguards would be a prime example of this for me, since their lore is awesome and I like the idea of being a humanoid that still has that hint of exotic. On the other hand, if the race looks ugly as hell or I don't like their backstory at all, then I probably won't play as them any time soon, the Orcs in Oblivion being a prime example (Skyrim has fixed that problem thankfully).

While I probably would choose based off of aesthetics if there weren't too many races, there are too many to choose from in games like TES, so I start by going through what would work for my preferred play-style and taking it from there.

I play Khajiit more for my interest in their culture and lore then anything else. I always play stealth.
