Fable 2 step foward in rpgs?

Post » Sun Oct 02, 2011 10:10 am

I personally really don't like the fable games anymore after Fable TLC aka Fable 1 version 1.2
Peter has been screwing up his own games but i liked the step forward where he got rid of armor ratings from clothing.
This would allow players to run in whatever their favorite set of armor is without having to worry about dying all the time.

So my question is would this fit in skyrim? maybe not skyrim since it's almost out.
but other TES games?

I personally loved it.
I was always running around in my favorite suit of clothing/armor

Certain types of armour are better than others. It's not a step-forward really, it removes strategy and streamlines the game.

Their could still be light/heavy armor.
Heavy armor could still have all it's penalties to stealth etc.
While light armor doesn't.

Light Armour wouldn't be as durable in battle as heavy armour would. It allows you to be more agile at the cost of that extra protection. If you get rid of those bonuses and penalties then you've just got a game that does it for you. I mean, I favour light over heavy but I don't want the game to just bundle every piece of armour in the same, "wear this so the swords don't hurt." box.

It's not a step forward nor a step in the right direction. It can be annoying to basically have to use a armor just because it's better even though you don't like how it looks but that has always been a part of rpg:s and can really only be fixed by more variation and hopefully customization in armor looks. Me, I never really liked how glass or daedric looked in any elder scrolls game so I've always rather disliked having to use them, but that is a very minor complaint.

Ugh, less isn't more when it comes to those type of game mechanics. I WANT penalties to heavy armour. Why would anyone wear light armour if it was the same as heavy armour, only not as effective?

I think it would be nice to transfer the stats of one item onto another, who's model you prefer, consuming the one you used in the process.

Like transferring Daedric stats onto iron armor (or whatever armor's model you prefer) thus destroying the daedric armor. Or perhaps you could transfer it onto a light armor model, but that would overwrite the light armor classification and replace it with heavy armor (for balance reasons).

When it comes to RPGs, everytime I hear or read the expression "now you don't have to worry about X any more" I am more and more worried for this genre.

Remove "Armor Ratings"? What? You mean remove "Armor Degradation"?

Edit: Ohh... Now I see, I read "Todd" where it was "Peter"

If I run around with only a shirt in a game I will accept all the penalties and risk involved. I'd prefer to get frost damage, loss in charisma, etc rather than having no negative effect. In fact it would hurt my feeling of immersion and suspension of disbelief if i'd be able to fight just as well as if i'd be armor-clad.

This is the most one sided poll I have ever seen on this forum.

I stated before the penalties could still be there
just no armor ratings.
But yeah, after i thought about this this is really crappy idea. haha.

well for one thing fable TLC was what the game was supposed to be + a few extras. they were running out of time on their deadline and had to cut the ending 1/3 of the game. TLC brought out what the story was supposed to be.

So the only point of armor is "looking cool"? Sorry, I don't like it. We get a diverse amount of looks for each armor already.

One step further? It's more likely 10 steps backwards.
