If Skyrim would run on a old engine. Then would you still bu

I would, Because It is all about the gameplay. These days people more worry about The resolution, graphics, AA.etc but it isn't about that its about how to play it. For example Terreria or minecraft, they are a big succes but yet their graphics are for 1999-2003.

Morrowind and Oblivion had great graphics for their time. They are important in ES series, because Bethesda relies a great deal on graphical realism (except the faces, never the faces) for immersion.

It depends completely of what you means by "old engine"

Arena/daggerafall engine? No I really can't. Morrowind engine? No problem.

Why does it have to be either or?

Why can't a great game consist of good gameplay, amazing graphics and an intriguing story?

These days people always say, it's all about gameplay. It's all about graphics. It's all about story.

I myself consider story the most important thing, but that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be awesome gameplay and great graphics in a game.

So of course the game should be on a new engine, because nice graphics are a part of a good game these days. It's not all about the gameplay. But it's not all about the graphics either.

All of these elements combined make a good game.

Yeah I find that for the TES, graphics are especially important for the immersion. I mean it's all about breathtaking environment, that's an enormous part of the immersion.

Skyrim looks as if running on an old engine... but if Skyrim came out with Oblivion graphics, there's no way in hell I'd ever pay a dollar for it. If it came out with Morrowind graphics... same thing. Graphics are very important and creating an immersive world. The "graphics don't matter" is fallacy that takes the gameplay > graphics argument to hyperbolic levels, and started after a period where we were getting games with compromised gameplay in favour of shiny graphics. Back then, gameplay was lagging behind graphics. Today, graphics are often lagging behind because of the old consoles. Any good game is only made better by better graphics. Skyrim's are on the weak side, and I'm really counting on mods to make it visually engaging - though I shouldn't have to.

Btw, I'm not preordering or buying the game on release because of its low graphical quality. I'll wait for a sale or price drop, by which time mods are hopefully out to improve its appearance. Graphics definitely matter, a lot, and they always have.

True, ofcourse I like Nice environment and Resolution. But I more like what story is behind, the Gameplay. but that's just me.

I think Oblivion looks fine for it's graphics the only problem i have with it is the models/faces/animations. Everything else is fine for me.
