Can anyone who's played explain Active Blocking?

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2011 3:38 am

We heard a lot about "active blocking" during the early months this year. However I havent really seen much of it since. It seems like you can block anytime like in Oblivion (which is good). There is only one time in the demo (when fighting the giant) that it looks like some kind of "active block". Can anyone who has played elaborate?

In one of the demo videos with Todd Howard he states that the triggers on the controller control the hands, so if you have a shield in your left hand, you have to use that control to use the shield and block an attack. It's just the same as Oblivion.

This was mentioned in the issue of GI with Skyrim on the cover.

Apparently, blocks must be timed against strikes. You can't just hold block.

Are you talking about timed blocks?

I haven't played it, but I remember reading that this is how blocking now works:

- Holding the block button pushes an enemy back (not sure how/if this ties into the bash perk).
- Timing an opponent's attack with brief block button presses blocks attacks.

I think.

EDIT: Clarity.
