Survival - A Hunter's Life

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2011 9:38 am

In MW and OB, the creatures dropped invaluable remainings. Bear pelt at a mere 2 gold. How's that gonna earn you a living as a hunter? I think that bear pelts should cost much more, as other's animal's trophies. Hope this is fixed in Skyrim.

Why make something that's ridiculously easy to acquire worth much? It might not reflect real world prices on those goods sure, but if it did then chasing deer would be too profitable.

You might be getting what you want from the crafting system though. With the ability to make hide and leather armour, animal pelts might gain functional value.

I look forward to making some extra coin by crafting actual valuable stuff. It will probably have the potential to make the gold rewards meaningless in a quest if taken to an extreme, but I relish those moments, really. I mean who DOESN'T want to basically be able to buy and sell virtually every asset in the land at some point in their existence?

I see what you're saying, and I agree completely. Even if the pelts were only valuable to tanners to make into leather armor, it would still be a step up from OB where they were worthless.

Not sure what you are expecting, since when are hunters wealthy?

Bear pelts were 2g?!

Wolf Pelts were 10g
Lion Pelts were 10g
Bear Pelts were 30g

And who says you gotta limit yourself to mundane "Earthly" animals? Why can't a hunter hunt minotaurs, imps, etc?

You're confusin' me bro

If animals yield things that can be used for any crafting skill, it should be pretty worthwhile.

Any animal hide won't be worth as much to a shopkeeper as a salable item as they have to find someone to craft something useful out of it (butcher, cook, brew, tan, etc) before they themselves can resell it for enough to actually make a decent profit.

Actually, bear pelts were worth 30 gold in Oblivion.

I think it would be nice if they bumped up the values a little more, say 20%, but relative to the stronger creatures, animals such as bears, wolves, and deer are very easy to kill, so their drops should definitely be worth less than the more fearsome creatures. A hunter in Tamriel would hunt all wild creatures, not just the real world Earth creatures. If one hunts all creatures, animals and monsters alike, you can scraqe a decent living. You won't be anywhere near rich, but since when has being a hunter been used as a get-rich-quick scheme? That's where adventuring and looting ruins comes in :teehee:

I'm happy people are thinking about this aspect of the game though, seeing as Rangers and Mountain Men are my favorite characters to play :foodndrink:

? Was just playing oblivion and bear pelt was "worth" 30 septims... i sold it for 16 or so.

(to compare to a weapon, a "fine silver dagger" is 40 septims... armour ... leather boots are 10 septims, gloves 10 septims... cuirass 35 septims)

It might be easy for wolf pelts but bears? I don't think so. In Morrowind there were lvl30ish Bears if I remember. At least about 50 gold worth each bear pelt (do not forget that those who do not have a decent barter/merchantile skill won't even get half of the real price out of it, therefore 25- gold...).

Oh. You were talking about MW and OB, so I provided the OB numbers. I felt the value of the pelts in OB were fair. You shouldn't be able to get rich being a hunter.

And hunters shouldn't limit themselves to bears, wolves and deer. Go after ogres, imps, and minotaurs.

There's nothing wrong with being on the console and eating does matter btw...it adds health bonuses. You don't need to play on the evil PC imo. :brokencomputer:
