How to improve my character?

Ok, im playing my second character in Oblivion, the first one was many years ago so I dont really remember all that well, and I didnt complete the game. Not reading up on anything before I made my character I chose Blade, Alchemy, Acrobatics, Light Armor, Marksman, Security and Sneak as Major skills. I still dont know if this was a good idea or not but I wanted to sneak around, doing sneak attacks with bow and switch to blade when they came up close and I was unable to kite. However, lately I have been having troubles killing stuff. Its really hard, and I dont know what to do about it. At the start of the game I failed to realize that I had to sleep somewhere to level up so I was running around doing quests as level 3 (not sure how I got to be lvl 3) and then realized I had to sleep so boom, level 9 or w/e it was. Did this screw things up? Or have I just built my character wrong? Or maybe I have crappy items or am I doing some high level quests or something. I thought everything was supposed to scale with my level, maybe im wrong.

Right now, im stuck down in Vanua on the quest The Shrine of the Crusader, between a Ghost I cant kill because I svck at magic, and a Dread Zombie that doesnt take any dmg from spells, bow nor blade. If this is impossible, then I am damaging it, but its so low that I cant see it and I have no chance to survive long enough to kill it. I can sneak back out and come back later, but will it help? What do I do to get better? I have mainly only done sidequests for now, I like to do all quests in the game because its fun, not skipping a thing. When it comes to training, I do it when I have the money and I come by a trainer who teaches me something I want. I havent trained any magic stuff because then I wouldnt be training the stuff I want, because of the lack of money. I stil havent bought my own place, no chance in hell I would get the money for it, it seems. I am level 17 now and I have 172 Health, 74 Magicka, 231 Fatigue. 59 Strenght, 95 Agility, 104 Speed, 49 Endurance, 33 Personality, 60 Luck, 28 WIllpower (red), 27 Intelligence (red). Did I mess up?

Ok, this became a wall of text with badly formulated english... sorry! I should have been in bed an hour and a half ago, sleepy as hell but Oblivion doesnt want me to sleep, I cant betray it! Thanks for any help, im a big newb and have probably done all wrong. Oh yeah, I use Elven Bow / Glass Shortsword and some chainmail crap and some magic rings with resistances etc on. My curiass is enchanted with endurance and strenght I believe it was, but it has 0 durabilty because I cant repair it..

Nothing is wrong with your character. You just aren't geared. You will have a very difficult time until you find some new armor and weapons. What I recommend is to stop whatever quests you are doing and go into a random dungeon. Struggle through it and get the loot.

EDIT: whoops, didn't read through the whole post :embarrassed:

I still think you need better gear though. Try to find an enchanted sword and/or bow in a random dungeon. It would be best if you avoided frost enchantentes.
