Do you think gamestop will be packed on 11.11.11?

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2011 9:24 pm

I don't have any experience with pre-ordering games, so do you think I should pre-order from gamestop or from best buy? I don't see any information on either of their sites about this, so I'm just going to have to ask the forums...don't flame.
My decision is leaning towards gamestop, since I could get the map of Skyrim, although my only concern is that the place will be packed with Skyrim fans on the day of the release...
With best buy, I wouldn't imagine many people would pre-order there so it would be less crowded...but no map, and I've also heard that when you pre-order online, they automatically want ship it to you.

How are ya'll doing this? When you pre-order online, is there a printable receipt or something?
I just really doubt that I will even get a hold of the game on the day of the release, but I'll definitely try.

After the whole Deus Ex: Human Revolution scandal, I'd avoid buying from GameStop like the plague.

Midnight releases are quick. Even if there is a large line, it will only take like 15-20 mins max.

What happened?

Gamestop pulled Deus Ex off the shelves because inside of the game box was a pamphlet for an online game service that is a direct competitor to Gamestop.

They cut open pc boxes, removed content from the box and sold them as new. Order came via a corporate memo that instructed the stores to do it.
Big incident that ended when Gamestop finally pulled the pc version from their shelves. Had to do with a redeemable online voucher in the box that belonged to a competitor.

I've never had a midnight release take too long at all.

my local gamestop doesnt even sell pc games anymore.

im willing to bet in my area there will be 40-60 people. its a relatively new store in a developing area so its not too popular. hopefully there wont be too many around 11 when i get off of work. thats when ill be showing up.

it'll be my first midnight release

Lol. I've been to the midnight releases of:

Halo 2, Halo 3 (Halo got me my first xbox. I am stuck to the series as a tradition now), and Modern Warfare 2.

I'll be soon to add three more under my belt. Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, and SKYRIM!

Battlefield cause Bad Company and crap REALLY svcked. This one is the only good one I've played (open beta). It's a fresh break from my normal games, so I'll be happy to buy it. I'm also in a clan which is taking it more seriously than I expected, as we're generally MW2 players. I'm getting MW3 cause that's the next step to where everyone is going.

The Modern Warfare series (Infinity Ward) trumps the darn Treyarch installment by 100-1. The only reasons I still own World at War and Black Ops is cause of the memories attatched to the great times of zombie-slaying my friends and I had. I'm a bit sentimental, otherwise, they'd be on eBay, and probably gone by now.

I've ALWAY loved TES series. The first one I took seriously was Morrowind, and was too young to understand Daggerfall. I barely remember it.

At the midnight launch for DA-II, there were about 20 people there at my gamestop. But it was really quick, I got out of there in about 2 - 5 minutes. I usually always do, especially if I pay it off in advance. For Skyrim, I'm expecting a lot more people. But pay it off in advance and when you get there that night, finalize the purchase at the counter and get your receipt, and that will get you out real quick.

You'd be surprised. They've been very much so, in my history with midnight releases, and I've only been to 3.

Under what circumstances? o.0 I pre-ordered my (normal-edition) copy. Does your statement have any effect to me?

I HAD it paid off. . . then my youngest god daughter (curse her) showed my fiancee' the picture of all the contents for the CE and. . . long story short, my fiancee told me to upgrade to CE and she's sending me more money to pay it off (again). *sigh* Izumi, my youngest god daughter, will be hearing from me very soon. I swear that kid is the bane of my existence. >.>

@Shadelon:

Lol. Isn't that a GOOD thing? To get PAID to go get the Collector's Edition? That's pretty darn epic. (And by your God-Daughter, too!)

Well it's Izumi's fault. But it's my fiancee', Elsa, who is sending me money to pay off the collector's edition. In fact Elsa's the one who sent the money to pay off the standard edition in the first place. It's supposed to be a birthday gift.

I just have trouble being comfortable with Elsa spoiling me so damn much. In fact she's even sending $300 for me to get the PS Vita 3G.
