Turning off the Blood Splatter/Gore

Post » Wed Oct 05, 2011 5:10 am

I'm not sure if anyone knows this or not but is it possible to turn off the blood splatter that appears on the screen when you get hit? I can see that really be annoying and this is not a first person shooter so I don't see why this effect needs to present. If anything it mares the beauty and detail thats on the screen. I'm hoping theres an option when the game releases. It would also be great to turn of blood in general like you can in Assassins Creed. If anyone knows or if Pete Hines is reading this, I would ask that this be a feature in the game, even if this is post game patch or something. I'm sure it can't be too difficult to accommodate. Thnx. :D

I have no issue with it being a toggle-able option though personally I'd prefer their be more blood and gore. Pummeling someone with a sharp/blunt weapon usually has very noticeable effects after all...

I think he just means the splatter on the camera specifically, not blood and gore altogether. I can see it getting annoying if its overdone, but not so much if its only on finishing moves in first person.

Well I doubt there will be a toggle for the blood on the screen specifically, but a toggle for gore that will lessen it and will almost certainly remove the blood on the screen is HIGHLY likely.

So you will be able to play without the annoyance, but at the sacrafice of the rest of the gore.

Ya I should have clarified it a bit more. I care about the blood splatter on the first person camera view that can be slightly annoying or distracting. A specific example is in the E3 demo when the giant is bashing Dragonborn, you can clearly see blood splatter or spots on the camera and in your view. It gradually goes away but not for a little while it seems.

I hate it when that kool-aid sprays all over the screen in MW2. It's not immersing or atmospheric, it's just annoying and pointless.

Honestly, I could care less if there was a toggle for the gore that would lessen it and remove the blood on the screen. In fact, it would be very much preferable. I'm sure there will be something like that for the PC version or some mod down the road perhaps, but I will be getting the Xbox 360 version since I only have a Mac. Here'e hoping they are aware of this little issue, albeit an important one in my book.

Actually it does make more sense in a melee-based game that in pretty much any fps out there. When you shoot someone in RL it's very unlikely that his blood would splat on your face, unless you're blowing his head with a 12 barrel shotgun at a very close range. On the contrary, a deep blade wound is likely to spray blood all around your victim.

I think the bloodspatter is a good way to provide feedback to the player that they are scoring hits. I want to feel like i'm actually doing something, not just clicking (or hitting the triggers) until something dies.

This character is not me. It's a floating camera with arms.

I think this is a very good idea. I got really tired of the dismemberment in F3 and was really glad when the mod that allows you to change the percentage chance came out. There is a place for gore in video games, Mortal Kombat, FPS games, etc. but I always saw the TES games as a haven from that violence.

For realism sake of course it is great. ie the post above about hitting flesh with large swords, but the ability to toggle it, or maybe a slider bar, would be greatly appreciated!

(this would also allow me to play in front of my son without the wraith of my wife!)

Blood everywhere is fine with me, except on the screen. I find that very annoying.

Hes talking about the call of duty esque blood that covers your screen when you get hit and makes it hard to see.

I agree, I like a simple red gradient border. The bloody screen is cheesy and looks cheep.

The 3d gore effects in the game are completely different.

The blood splatter on the screen doesn't even make sense. It makes sense in a modern FPS because your character could be wearing a see through visor. That's what the blood splatter is meant to be hitting.

There's nothing you can wear in the TES universe that makes the visual effect remotely plausible. You would have to get an incredibly small amount of blood in your eye to get anywhere near the effect they use. A standard drop of blood (like you would get from an eye drop device) would be too much.

So yeah its a pretty cheap and nasty visual effect to use here.

I didn't realize there was blood splatter on the screen, I'm not a big fan of effects like that either so I hope there's something we can do about it otherwise another thing to add to the list of mods I want.
