Will the main quest force the character to be good?

If it's our destiny to stop the great evil Alduin, will there be any chance for evil characters to stay true to their role of evilness?

If you wanna be THE ultimate evil, you gotta beat the OTHER ultimate evil (Alduin, in this case). That's how I see it. :mohawk:

Most truly evil people don't want the world to be destroyed, because then there's nothing to rule over.

So the only option cut off to you is the very worst version of a psychotic madman.

Evil isn't exactly allied with or in any way loyal too other evil. Something that wants to eat your face needs to be defeated regardless of whether you would rather be helping little old ladies cross the street or drowning puppies.

Saving the world isn't necessarily good. You're saving yourself as well, of course.

That's always the tricky part with games that give you a choice: a lot of games up to now have let you chose to play good or evil, but you still need to save the world to "beat the game". It may be one of those, can't really to truly evil, "evil people" problems. You could not save the world, by not finishing the main quest, but then the main quest simply sits unfinished... Maybe you'll get a good outcome vs bad outcome depending how you chose to finish the main quest, that would be best to hope for I guess.

The way I see it, saving the world is mearly a side effect of saving your own hide from alduin. Sure others might revear you for it, but if it was done for selfish reasons it doesnt have to be good

Think of it this way, you're horrendously evil for defeating Auriel and allowing the existence of Mundus to the altmer of Summerset Ilse and the bosmeri dynasties of Valenwood.

I like the way you think.

While I understand this view of it, I'm most certain that it won't be handled with this character premise in mind. I'm most afraid that the main quest will force you into the role of a savior of the realm only for the sake of saving it.

Even though I RP a Nihilist who would most likely aid Alduin if given the choice, I'm not mad that they'd close off one specific avenue of approach. I'm just worried that they'll most probably put you into the role of a savior and a hero (just like in Oblivion).

I like the way InFamous 2 handled this, the last mission was completely different depending on your karma status, i think it would be cool if Skyrim did something along these lines

I for one will be the greatest good ever to dual wield swords!
Ehrm the Dovahkiin will rid evil from this world AND the next! Only after the main quest will I join the cowardly thieves guild (for the achievements of course), as well as the pathetic Dark Brotherhood!

Depends on your definition of good and evil.

I think it was already stated that no matter what decisions you make it will not hurt the overall progress of the main quest. I could be wrong, but I thought dude said something like that during the E3 twenty minute gameplay video.

Alduin is competition. He is a threat to both good and evil characters. Once you eliminate the threat, nothing stops you from bringing Skyrim to its knees.

It won't saving the world is not being Good.

Its like this, you save the world and someone is like, "Your our hero Dovahkiin!" and your like, "I only saved you so i would have someone to torture, this is my world!".

Whos to say Alduin is inherently evil? It comes off to me as a more of "Its time to weed the garden and start the next season" kind of thing, rather than "MUST DESTROY"

I don't know many evil people would save3 the world due to it saves their own hide, it could be profitable to be seen has a hero and use it to exploit others and so on.
