This is NOT a "What's your Character" thread

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 6:04 am

I am so excited for Skyrim, as we all are. I imagine many of us have rainbows coming out our ends like Nyan cat in pure ecstasy of waiting for our new game. Now that I have put that wonderfully painted image into your heads let's get onto the point of this post. A lot of people, DAILY I might add, post a "what is your character" thread. Everyone is sick of those, yes, but how many of us are so excited to do EVERYTHING the game has to offer that we cannot completely decide? It's like walking into a video game store and not knowing why you walked in. No specific game in mind to buy. You start looking at the shelves and you think "well I like these types of games and I heard this one is good, but I also heard this one is good as well". You start to ask questions to the employees to expedite your decision on what game to buy. Many of us come to the forums and check the youtubes and the other sites for inspiration to create our character and expedite the decision making process. I have switched from Bosmer to Dunmer to Orsimer to Khajiit and back to Bosmer again.

Every time I get a bit of new info my mind changes because I am excited about the possibilities that can be made with said race. Thinking about that excites me even more because that means they have really worked on the variety of each race AND each skill AND each perk, etc. How many of you guys are undecided? How many of you claim to be decided and yet in your heart you jump from race to race even if it is just to tempt the idea of a new character "class"? They are giving us the power to generate our classes and evolve our characters this time around. Little-to-no restrictions baby! I myself, as some of you might know, am an artist and Skyrim is starting to look like a nice palette of paint. A little bit of this there and and a little bit of that here, or maybe switch it up completely? So in closing, who of you are bouncing around with your decision making and how many of you are daring to try something bizarre and completely off the wall in regards to characters? For example: Any stealth mages? Any orc mages? Altmer warriors? But even deeper than that if you like.

I myself am thinking unarmed khajiit nightblade using unarmed claw attacks when needed but mainly focusing on stealth magic. This won't be my main character probably but rather a test character to see how efficient and effective it will be.

EDIT: To halt confusion, this is NOT a thread for what character you WILL play. This is a thread for creativity. Many of us have ideas of cool possible classes but probably won't play them. For example: My Khajiit class I probably won't try for my first character but it is still something I might try later. It is a thread of undecided character ideas. So that does not qualify as a "What is your character" thread as it isn't set in stone.

Thread title is "This is NOT a What's your character thread" and then you close with "So in closing, who of you are bouncing around with your decision making and how many of you are daring to try something bizarre and completely off the wall in regards to characters? For example: Any stealth mages? Any orc mages? Altmer warriors? But even deeper than that if you like." i'm confused. is it or is it not a what's your character thread?

in any case i gotta stick with the main nordish theme on first play through and just let it develop naturally, using what works well and not using what doesn't work so well.

Definantly. I want to be a nord, dunmer and orc! i want to be a mage/warrior/battlemage/theif/enchanter/alchemist/archer all in one but i could never do that :( too many options...makes it soo hard to chose. thats why i like shooters sometimes no choices to em just shoooooooottttttt although i have high hopes that skyrim will be 2000000x better than any shooter because of these choices. :brokencomputer:

There, I edited my initial post with a disclaimer, I hope that ends the confusion :) I can see why you would be confused. This is a creative thread. I want goofy ideas but not ridiculous ones necessarily. Ideas that people are inspired to try but may not right off the bat. Ideas that sound interesting and fun. Also a thread meant for those who have not yet decided what they want to play and why they keep bouncing from idea to idea.

As you are well aware 'o already "brother" i will be a warrior/thief but not in the expected sense of the word!

I shall begin my adventures as a warrior who will likely focus on heavy armor first and foremost but...this does NOT mean that i shall wade into battle like a mindless beserker mind you, no i will approach certain situations with caution as well as ghile so to speak read: stealthly!

Aye even clad in heavy armor!

Surely i will be using the odd piece of light as well but can't say i will start with it! Also not at all interested in pickpocketing or the better gold deal speechcrafts...

Anyone confused already? :bonk:

Well, after the announcement of Skyrim, I began to think about characters. And after some thought and research, I arrived at a couple characters.

Then, slowly, as more information was released, I began to think of additional characters.

I started with one, my first, a Breton - Sibyl, my v?lva-type shaman-in-training.

After word of the Bard's College in Solitude, A bard character was conceived.

Later, after relationships were confirmed, I thought I should create a male character.

Then after reading a few threads about races, I decided to make a female Redguard who uses magic, for something different.

Finally, after the presentation of the race presets, for the first time ever, since starting the series in 1994, I decided to make an Altmer.

Bottom line: - The addition of new information on this forum has influenced my planned characters.

Got two characters set in stone, for the start of their adventures at least, but I am also going to do a 'don't plan, take it as it comes' guy, the only details of whom are he is vaguely a sort of, kinda, womanising rogue with a touch of bard, perhaps. Race? No idea, maybe Breton, just to play a really short guy chatting up Nords and Altmer, and no other reason. Skills? Whatever is needed then. Weapons, spells, armour? Whatever isn't nailed down. Perks? Doesn't plan beyond breakfast tomorrow, so no idea, except 'get discount from opposite six'. Mission in life? Afford a good night at the tavern.

if it is "too long" for you and you don't want to read then don't comment as you will miss the point of the thread, which you have, then it becomes spam and then you also look like a fool for not understanding the point of the thread. Better to read or leave it alone if you are feeling lazy; which is totally acceptable if you want to be. Oh, and I am not calling you a fool but rather that you may LOOK like one if you fail to understand the OP. You don't walk into an interview and reply to a question saying "I like cookies" after not listening to the question first.

I can decide. I'll be several things.

I'm getting really tired of people posting things under some kind of assumption that we only have one character slot available. For some reason. I just don't get this phenomena.

I'm either going to be a versatile Imperial ranger, a Redguard dual-wielding warrior, or a Breton battemage. I think I'm doing the Imperial first, but lets be real. I really don't know.

I agree! I will have many character slots to try different things and depending on how I feel at the time. I will juggle around with my characters. For me it isn't about doing everything in the fastest time possible but rather having fun experiencing everything but when I feel inspired to experience it. I don't want to be forced to play a warrior or a thief when I want to play a mage or some other creation. That is one of the many freedoms of TES, character saves :)

Then frankly, you won't experience the game at all.
