Health Potions - Instant or gradual healing?

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 7:49 pm

I haven't seen anyone post about this so I thought I might bring it up, as it's something that has annoyed me from previous Bethesda titles. I'd like for all health potions in Skyrim to heal you gradually, like Morrowind or 'hardcoe' FNV stimpacks rather than the instant healing power we've seen a few times before. Especially later in the game one can often stockpile large amounts of said healing supplies and to have them all heal you in one chunk takes more of the challenge and realism away from a series that isn't overly challenging in the first place - though still thoroughly enjoyable.

Any news on where this feature stands? I assume restoration spell are gradual, but correct me if I'm mistaken.

I'm not sure but perhaps it is more likely that potions will yet again be instant healing, as it is now confirmed that we - stupidly - regenerate health slowly over time anyway (regardless of effects).

Potions, instant or very fast. Food, gradual.

Gradual. it'd make it a much bigger challenge to survive, my Potions in Oblivion just prevented me ever having a chance of dying. (of course after i duped them ^_^)

it just seem's unrealistic to be like "Boom!" i feel better already.

Yes, I've heard this, but am hoping health potions simply increase the rate of this regeneration over a short period of time.

Well, even without duping them, with a large pile and a handy hotkey it just became the "tap for invincibility" button.

normal Health Regeneration was said to be so slow it was barely noticeable, so no worries for that.

So don't use the instant ones if you don't want instant healing. I liked the instants- there were many times when I'd try to make it through a fight only to have to save myself at the last minute. Or another enemy shows up unexpectedly. I'd prefer the choice.

Potions rely on the digestive system to distribute itself so...

Magic = Instant
Potion = Gradual(fast)
Food = Gradual(slow)

That's how i see it.

Potions are magic too, so they shouldn't rely on the digestive system.

both. They have diffrent uses. A gradualy healing potion usualy heals a lot more than an instant one.

It's magic. That's why you suddenly feel better. Fallout is based around technology instead, and there's nothing that can fix up a wound that fast.
