Reanimation and Necromancy on Large Creatures

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 3:51 pm

So, I heard that you can actually bring back the dead (Re-Animate) in this game.

Is this actually true?

Because if you could, that would be awesome.

But would/should it work on larger creatures, such as Mammoths, Giants, Spiders, or Trolls that we have seen so far?

Yes, you can raise dead NPCs with a staff, I don't know about spells. The cool thing is that when you kill the re-animated NPC, they don't just disappear, they actually fall down with physics and everything I.e. they're real.

As for re-animating large creatures like mammoths, trolls, dragons.....I'm 90% sure that you won't be able to, but I sure hope you can!

Yes, re-animation is in, but as far as I know, we don't know if you can just re-animate anything you've killed, or if there are only specific things you can re-animate.

I am -all about- being able to re-animate anything we kill. Especially if we can re-animate animals, considering that I plan on role-playing something of a necromantic druid. :twirl: :twirl: :twirl:

So in short - great idea! I hope that's how it works.

I don't think you need a staff this time around. There is a re-animation perk in the Conjuration tree.

If you manage to kill it, then you should be able to reanimate it.
(Kinda Off-topic) The Reanimations spells affected only npcs and not creatures in Oblivion, is this changed in Skyrim?

Yeah, sadly I left dragons out because I saw them burn into little embers when you finally slayed them.

But still, imagine summoning giants! SO AWESOME.

We've already got a dragon shout that apparently summons a dragon to your aid, no need to resurrect a dragon ;) Would be hard to kill a necromancer whose just summoned a dragon by his side 0.o

You don't need a staff. Pete Hines already said there's a spell and it was described in a preview. Once your resurrected minion dies however, they turn into ashes. There might be more necromancy spells too according to Hines but I haven't seen anything else.

Someone's review has that they found a reanimation staff that only works on small creatures like rats. This leads me to believe that your conjuration level and creature's level plays a part in whether you can reanimate it.

Hopefully there's a late-end perk that allows you to resurrect big creatures.

Awesome news! So, hopefully, if our counjuration gets to that critical point, we can (hopefully) resurrect Mammoths? YES PLEASE.

Did you mean reanimate? Summoning means to bring something from the plane of Oblivion which would only be daedra. They won't allow summoning something so big, you would summon it into a cave and all you would see is it's feet :) Maybe you can reanimate one outdoors, but I suppose it can't follow you into dungeons due to it's size.

Yeah I'm looking forward to playing a full on Necromancer type character, 2 actually. A Necromancer (Mage) and a Death Knight type. Death Knight will be Sword/Shield, heavy armor and just enough in the conjuration to get all the zombie bonus stuff. Think 1 lets you have 2 zombies at a time instead of just 1. Plus that health bonus one someone mentioned. All sixeh perks for playing a necro.

Do you have a link to this review? I'd love to see how the re-animate skill is described!

Oh yea! I'm definitely playing a necromancer character.

Actually, what you described is probably more accurate: Death Knight.

My character is essentially going to be a Death Knight / Druid. I don't know what (if anything) that combination would be called. But I want Necromancy (summoning ghosts, undead, and other supernatural beings, and re-animating my fallen foes) and Druid (Command of animals and creatures, hopefully re-animating animals as well) magic, while being a heavy armored dual wielder, http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff52/nell2thaizzay/ChaosWarrior2.jpg. Also somewhat related to Necromancy, I want to steal the souls of my victims (Soul Trap) to harvest the souls to use to imbue my items with magical properties (Enchanting).

All in all, a pretty evil guy. :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh:
