It's a Dunmeris word, the language of the dark elves. It means "foreigner" or "slave" (same thing to them). Basically it's the ultimate insult: not a dark elf.

Well, in Morrowind if you entered combat with a Dunmer they would occasionally yell out "Die N'wah!" or some variation on that.

I agree with everything but the "not a dark elf" part. My Dunmer character in Morrowind has been called an "N'Wah" several times...despite the fact that he was a Dark Elf.

hmmm ... very good point .. actually you bring up an even greater point ..
according to the legend nerevar was to be a "outlander" .. therefore if you played a Dark elf" you would be infact NOT an outlander ..
hmmm
that would a bit of a tragedy since you was spose to be nerevar reborn ... uhg

id wager it was because you weren't a morrowind dunmer. Elves tend to to be elitists like that in TES.

It's because the game wasn't responsive to your race.

IIRC, seeing as you left or weren't born in Morrowind, you were still considered an outlander.'

Can't remember which one it was.

That is because no matter what race you chose, you could never be a native of Morrowind.

and you were brought back by ship .. this is kinda messed up

The game wasn't written to understand and interact with your race. Hence a dark elf could still be called an N'Wah.
