Does the "Skill Increased to x level" bother anyone

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 3:08 pm

In the Skyrim Demo footage released by Bethesda it seemed like every time he got hit or swung his sword that "Heavy Armor Increased to X" would appear. Does anyone else find these annoying? Wouldn't it be better if it was smaller and off to the side? Your thoughts...

Immensely so... along with the "DRAGON SOUL ABSORBED!" message.

It's far too arcadey for a game like this.

It doesn't really matter to me. I actually like the new way it is presented. For me, I have pretty bad eye sight so to have the notification pop up in big letters really helps. I think it is also a new way to implement it because it will be more user friendly to a lot of newer Elder Scrolls fans coming in. When they increase in a skill, what they discovered, obtained, etc. then Bam!, they know exactly what they increased/whatever and is very easy to spot, read and basically straight-forward.

Well... It's nice to be able to monitor skill increases, but I don't think we need it in our face like that. Hopefully the interface is as moddable as Oblivion's and we can shrink it down and stick it off into a corner somewhere.

I'm sure it will be as moddable as Oblivions.

It never bothered me much and I would like to know when I increased my skills.

I think it could be a little smaller but still not something I really cared about much.

Doesn't really matter to me. Seems like you're getting a bit too caught up with it.

Yes, the text is too big.

Hopefully it's not that big on the PC version. For the consoles the size may be ok as someone may have a bad quality screen that is still looked from far away.

I think the size is necessitated by it being in part a console game, with people looking at the screen from 2-3 metres away. I don't mind the location so much. I initially thought it was a little too intrusive, and I would prefer these updates in the corner of the screen. But having watched the gameplay videos a few times, it doesn't bother me so much now.

I do think that the level progress bar is intrusive, however. Watch the gameplay video where the character fights the Draugr (about 2:40 in).

The too big size breaks the immersion. Too big HUD does that too. Very big text is just a compromise made because someone may not see small text because of low quality screen, bad vision etc...

I don't like big pop ups. They make me think of Call of Duty...KILL STREAK, +100 POINTS! Horrible.
