Wait, do we must to buy it through Steam? What if I have physical copy of Skyrim? I'm confused now.

You have to download and connect to Steam to activate it. You can play the game in offline mode after that. All the patches or additional content like DLC or expansions will come directly through Steam.

And although I bought the DVD, the software is not sold to me, it's more like a rental contract... and I can only use the software in accordance to their terms:

You say you've been gaming for years, yet in all that time have you ever read a user license agreement? The above is true for any piece of software: you don't own it, you're licensing it. You've always been using software solely on someone else's terms, whether you knew it or not.

As for Skyrim using Steamworks, I look at it this way: DRM is a part of modern PC gaming and it isn't going away. Considering this fact has led to things like Ubisoft's "always online" system and SecuROM installing root-kits without the user's knowledge, I'd much rather support publishers for using a simple and unobtrusive system like Steamworks.

Can I point out that once you install the game they can't stop you playing it?

Don't connect steam to the internet after installation?
Why will it matter when you can create a new account or download the (thing that fixes this) when it comes out.

I still agree it's a disgrace that they're doing it but I don't see the point in complaining when there are so many workarounds

I might be wrong but I was pretty sure you only needed to use steam for the installation.

If there are so many "workarounds", why are they forcing us then? Doesn't this render the whole thing useless?

I don't know how often I would need to use steam or not, but I don't want to agree to these terms. Such terms are a slap in the face of each loyal customer. I mean, paying for something, but giving up on any right? Is there really someone who thinks this is fair?

In the end, we are the customers, and without us, buying and supporting, and modding their games, Bethesda would be nowhere today. We made them what they are now, and forcing us to use steam is not a nice way to thank us for this, in my eyes.

Microsoft is behind this... We're all being bottle-necked into buying an xbox... lol. Good thing I'm ahead of the game and already have an xbox and Skyrim pre-ordered for it.

Works well if you don't want updates and patches.

Easier said than done.

I've been receiving notification from Blizzard that a WoW account that I don't even have is going to be terminated... :whoops:

To the subject of the OP - that's why I buy my games on consoles now. I find console gaming to be so much easier - and dare I say "better" - than computer gaming.

haha I have been emailing blizzard for 2 years now. My account was hacked for illegal gold farming (probably one of those prison camps). I had uninstalled AND thrown away my install discs a year before I started getting the notices. I have been telling them constantly that it wasn't me and I still have issues with my passwords from time to time with Blizzard now. Also my WOW account is permanently banned "for my safety". Not that it matters.. Wow is lame.
