The most important questions of all

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 11:19 pm

1. Is the player character able to sit down?
2. Can the player character sit on the ground near a camp fire?
3. When sleeping, is it still the fade to black or is there an actual animation like the mod CU_Sleep?

And now, because I know it makes some people cringe "IMMERSION!" B)

Ok, I admit, these are not important, and the questions are quite rhetorical since non of us know much at this point.

I would really like to hear some opinions on the things you would like to see, perhaps a usable bathing tub as an example.

Note, this is not a thread to discuss the useless nature of these things, it's about what you would personally like to see no matter how useless it is to the game play.

Got it, including all the latest expansion packs, unfortunately they left out the swords and magic, oh and a player slot.

We'll be able to sit down. As for being able to bathe... I think I'll just shrug.

That's fair enough, but how about the things you would personally like to see that have no bearing on the game play?

This is the way I look at it, that little rock lying on the ground is of no use to game play, it's there purely as an aesthetic, it's the same with armor, you don't need it's visuals just it's effects, but it would look odd without the visuals, that's why I don't get those who shun immersion, they already use it they just don't know it.

The got sitting in chairs/couches/benches figured a long time ago, so that is probably in the game.

As for sitting on the ground, it would require an activator like a chair has, I would imagine, so that would have to be added to each campfire, then we would have to look for it. They could use a blanket for an activator, but how weird would that be to see a blanket at each and every campfire? Maybe a bucket or a rock could be used.

I would rather just have to game skip to the end of the sleep cycle as quickly as possible with as little fuss or fanfare as possible. A quick Fade to Black then your suddenly awake works for me.

A wooden stump or log, and not necessarily at every campfire.

I understand that, there are times I prefer to skip, but I was pleased that CU_Sleep was created, it added to my role playing aspect.

Bathtubs? You can be near death, and exhausted, cast a spell, and be fine. Or have helljoint, lung rot, swamp fever, and the collywobbles, cast one spell, and be cured of everything.
So I always assumed the mothers of Tamriel would sit there brushing their babies' teeth, saying to themselves "can't wait 'til you are hold enough to cast 'Clean Teeth on self' ", then they proceed to cast 'Make Armpits Fresh as a Daisy on other, radius 10 feet'.

I think that sitting should be included, even meditating on the spot for faster rejuvination - but I think it should be as an item. You go into inventory, select 'rug' or 'cushion' then when you activate it your character sits on it. The rugs and cushions could be enchanted to do things like speed up time, rejuvinate health quicker, rejuvinate magicka quicker, and stuff like that. You could be able to get different rugs for different things. They would work as a 'level up activation' as well as giving the character 'rested' to'well rested' depending on the quality and an additional bonus if the rug is enchanted.

Mages Guilds - Bedding of the apprentice: offers an increase to magicka skills for 24 hours.
Fighters Guilds - Warrior's rest: small increase in strength attributes.
Dark Brotherhood.. whatever you can guess the rest.

So yea, I think you should have a mat, rug or bedding with you in some small 'hikers' way and only be able to use it next to camp-fires. Otherwise, you can use any other bed for a super quick black out, black in, sleep.

Im not too sure if many of you have played Red Dead Redemption But IMO that was one of the greatest Sleeping programs out where you set up little campfire and stay the night i really really really hope something like this is in Skyrim it would complete the game for me! :D

I understand your concerns. You could sit on chairs in Gothic 4, but it felt really pointless because the world was otherwise not detailed enough, nor did it offer any roleplaying possibilities.

The real question for me isn't whether we get to sit down. Its whether we get to sit down.. In first person(I mean sit down/standing up animations).

Another thing I'd like to see is my character able to pick up a mug/tankard/cup drink from it and then place it back on the surface, heck, even use the tankard as a weapon in the bar brawls they've mentioned.

I know where this might work, stamina, of course this depends on the speed of stamina regeneration, if it's already fast then there is no point, but if slow then perhaps sitting can increase stamina regeneration, kinda of like catching your breath.

I would like to see the bartender fill up a mug from a wooden keg when I order a drink at a tavern.
