Skyrim runs too slow on your PC, what will you do?

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 2:47 am

In what order will you turn down setttings to maintain framerate?

Personally, the last thing I would turn down is texture quality. The first thing would be anti-aliasing. ( 2x instead of 4x :) )

Not sure if AA is needed at 2560x1600.

So I'll check for 50 cliff racers.

I'm pretty sure it'll run too slow on my PC no matter what I do. My archaic Athlon X2 shows it's half-decade age worse than milk. I'll probably start a new rig when I get a stable job. Freelancing means no matter how much I make, I have to save all the extra income, because once a particular vein of revenue dries up, there's no guarantee or approximate time frame until I can secure more work.

It's a shame, because aside from the processor, I've got a respectable system. I could probably run Skyrim at the highest settings with the same performance as the lowest, give or take potential options like AI Processor time.

With almost all the games I have I sometimes had to turn down the shadows, because it takes quite alot. But still it depends on the game itself, how its made. I played witcher 2 and I really had to lower the graphics because the fps was real low. But with bfbc2 and any other game I can literally put it to high and have a fps higher then 60 and not really lower.

I'd start with shadows or water I guess. I don't pay that much attention to them. Textures last though.

I have 1366x768 and I turn AA/AF/Vsync off as it is not really that noticable (for me)

Only things I turn on high are some shadows and textures

I'd turn down shadows first. Shadows are incredibly hardware demanding for not much graphical benefit.

AA and after that HDR/bloom. And the last thing I will turn down is the resolution and textures just before that.

Upgrade hardware

Other than that, turn down AA, then shadows.

Shadows go down first, I'm not that dependent on them as long as there isn't a gameplay effect (i.e. shadow detection in stealth). The resolution is the last thing I'd change, in fact I won't change it regardless the framerate. I'd rather use overclocking (which is like rocket science to me) than scale down the resolution.

AA would go first I guess, but I'm really hoping that I won't have to turn down anything.

Since most AA algorithms are heavy and far from perfect, AA goes down first. I'm actually one of the few people on the planet who always plays with AA disabled. Resolution goes down last, as any resolution different from the monitor native resolution causes a very unpleasant effect to the eye.

Turn down the shadows I guess. But I shouldn't have any problems maxing Skyrim.

I'd tone down the draw distances first, then I'd start turning down the shadows, then the water. Anti-Aliasing would be the last to get turned down, even after resolution. I hate jaggies with a passion.

The shadows most likely. From the second list the most important for me are draw distance and texture quality. Luckily this won't be the case, I'm expecting 1080p with full graphics on my rig.

I'd turn down AA first as I don't mind a few pixel-ised edges and it will probably improve FPS the most, the last thing being draw distance as I love being able to see for miles :D

I'd never think of turning down the resolution unless I wanted to play in windowed mode.

AA or Shadows i guess, last thing would be draw distance or textures.

If i have to turn down any settings much then Skyrim is either a graphical marvel or one of the worst optimised games out there, if it's the latter i will likely be modding and tweaking before turning anything down.
