Todd on DLC, and game lockup after you finish the main story

Post » Sun Oct 09, 2011 3:02 am

In a recent interviewwith Skyrim developer Todd Howard, he was asked by the interviewer about whether The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim would allow gamers to return to the game once the main quest had been completed and continue on other quests (a question on many Elder Scrolls fan’s minds), or whether they would be locked out of the game until appropriate DLC had been released which would allow them to return, much like Bethesda had done previously with Fallout 3. Howard responded to the question by saying:

“No, that was a mistake. We were really confident with that when the game came out, and we hear pretty loud and clear that was not what they wanted, so we’re not gonna do that again. When you finish the main quest you’ll be able to continue playing.”

Howard has cleared the question from Elder Scrolls fan’s minds by saying this. He also discussed the downloadable content that was going to be produced with Skyrim and said:

“We would like to do DLC. We don’t have specific plans yet, but they’ve been really successful and we like making them. So, right now I can say we’d like to do less DLC but bigger ones. You know, more substantial. The Fallout 3 pace we did was very chaotic. We did a lot of them, we had two overlapping groups. We don’t know what we’ll make yet, but we’d like them to be closer to an expansion pack.”

I’m sure this will clear up any doubts that Elder Scrolls fans may have had!

what do you think more expension packs less DLC thas what i think :)

Old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, news pal.

I know you're new to the forums and all, but when info. on stuff like this comes out, people are on it and making threads almost immediately. Also make sure you look and see if threads already haven't been posted on it.

Have a fishy stick! :)

Strong name to avi to post ratios.

With that said, I hope they do expansion packs rather than small DLC missions like in FO:3

I'm hoping for two dlc packs along the lines of shivering iles. With that i can easily see over 500 hours of gameplay out of one game. which is quite epic.

We've heard conflicting reports on how Beth wants to handle DLC.

Fewer, but larger expansion like DLCs would be better, IMO.

I'm pretty sure that we're going to get a "Knights of the Nine" sized DLC, and probably something comparable to Shivering Isles. I figure it's also a guarantee that we're going to get some stronghold type buildings like the Mage Tower and such. (Or 'buildings of convenience' as I came to think of them.)

Personally, I'm okay with that, because it's still more in terms of genuine content than most games get, and even the vanilla game is going to have almost countless hours of playtime on its own. That's not even including the permutations of "make your own fun" that the game supports, either in collecting, or gaming with a concept character.

Don't even get me started on the lucky folks who have PC's that are capable of running the game with everything turned up to max and the inventive mods that change or add things to the game.

DLC is going to be fine. Bethesda hasn't disappointed yet...well, except for that horse armor debacle.
