Stormcloaks - Motivation?

Post » Sun Oct 09, 2011 7:26 pm

Yeah, so, I've been seeing a lot of polls and questions about whether you're going to join the Legion or the Rebels.

Many say Rebels and point to Talos, assuming because the Empire banned his worship, the Stormcloaks -must- be fighting for it. But do we have any confirmation that this is their motivation? Any at all? Maybe the jag-off leading them is just a selfish, greedy bastard. Esbern is the only confirmed rebel fighting for Talos.

I think the empire is very corrupt and evil at the moment it might be because of Talos

I'd say it was more like freedom from Imperial tyranny. I doubt they could care less about Talos. I know I don't.

I don't get it, in the Nine Divines DLC Talos helps you kill Umrahel(sp?) but now the Empire hates him?

Want a throne, all for yourself? Stay up all night coming up with reasons for other men and women to fight and die for you, saying your quest for personal power is really their ideals of national pride, or freedom, or religious imperative. Oh, look, an army.

Because the Empire isn't run by the Septims anymore, descendants of Tiber Septim, but the Medes, they've banned his worship as it no longer applies to them.

And probably because they're terrified that another descendant of Uriel's or another Emperor would show up and totally throw down the new regime because of their bloodline.

Firstly, it's Ysmir to the Nords. Not Talos. Next, the civil war in all likelyhood not because of the Mede Empire trying to kill off Talos. Probably didn't help, but the civil war is about the King of Skyrim and who will take his spot next. Everything else is propaganda.

Oh, these guys killed the King and are terrorists! They're the bad guys, so join the empire!
Oh, those guys are evil dictators who are restricting our right to worship whom ever we want. They're the bad guys, so join the rebels!

It's just two sides throwing mud at the other as they try to take the throne. To those on the front lines it might be more black and white than that. The rebels just want freedom, and the empire just wants peace. But the politics are much more gray.

The Thalmer somehow fit into all of this as well. They might be pulling both the Empire and the Rebel's strings. If only Mede could have beaten them...

I see it exactly as a Thalmor conspiracy to get the nords to kill enough of themselves and the empire to allow for a larger invasion.

But for the scheme of things, it's mud slinging for who get the throne and who doesn't. One is for the empire, the other is for an independent Skyrim.

And by banning his worship they're royally [censored] over humanity. The Thalmor and Alduin both benefit from Talos's worship being banned...so there's something deeper at work here.

The Nords probably do care that the worship of Talos was banned-- and so should any human in Tamriel with any degree of common sense.

Thing is, not too many people really know much of the metaphysical ramifications of the myths in TES. Only we as the player is more learned of what's going on, while others have some idea.

As an Altmer, I have to help my realm in any way possible. By supporting the rebels I successfully weaken the empire, allowing for an aldmeri invasion.

If some sinister force is behind this, it shall be dealt with. But the empire MUST die.

"According to this theory, the three people (Wulfharth, Tiber Septim, and Zurin Arctus) can no longer be regarded as separate individuals, but part of the same enantiomorphic Oversoul that makes up the deity known as Talos, filling Shezarr's empty place in the Imperial pantheon."

Sounds like a few too many Nords for comfort in that little mix. Possible reason for the Medes not to approve, but is that really enough to make the Nords go to war, a god that goes by an Imperial name being banned?
