How important is it?

Post » Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:58 am

Hi I am a new member, but have been following the forums and Skyrim for ageeeeees. Anyway my question is: As someone who never really played Oblivion (Unfortunately) but really wants to get stuck into Skyrim and the story, How important is knowing about the Lore?
BTW I have seen quite a few threads giving information about the lore but not actually saying how important it is for the story, don't flame me too bad for asking please!

Everything you could possibly want to know about TES lore can be found http://www.imperial-library.info/ and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page. If you come across something in Skyrim that doesn't make sense to you or you just want to know all of the history behind a certain reference then you can research it on the webz.

I honestly dont know much about the lore, I've played and beaten the MQ for both Morrowind and Oblivion and I couldnt tell you the names of more then 2 of the gods and I dont know what aspect they represent. I dont think the lore is all that important, to me the back story is dry and unentertaining, some folks dig it though so I gusse it's up to you if you want to look it up and learn anything about it. Can you still have a blast with TES and not know what a daedra is? shizz yeah

I doubt it, you won't understand some of the conversations here and there but eh, not that important in my opinion. There's very likely the chance that there will be some in-game book describing some of the events in Oblivion you could read. As someone who played Morrowind but didn't get into it very much then picked up Oblivion essentially "fresh" to the series, I enjoyed it immensely.

i dont think u need to know much, itll tell ya wat u need to know ingame.

but learning about the lore wont hurt.
im planning on learning sum myself.
but playing oblivion i dont know any previous lore but i sure am enjoying it..

Yes, Lore is kind of important, at least to me anyway, when I was playing the Oblivion MQ, Mankar was talking about Lorkhan, back then, I didn't have a clue, then I remembered Morrowind and Lorkhans "Part" in it.
