What's your motivation for understanding lore?

Curious.

As in, I am curious as to why you-

I feel that good lore makes up the backbone of the game, and understanding it lets you get more into a game.

Because I'm a nerd for such things. And I like knowledge on things I like.

I started learning it so that I could mod better, but then I got drawn into the culture of this place and became enchanted with how complex and real (that is organic, chaotic, variable by belief) the world is. I wanted to know it all and argue about it with the best of them. I'm a big geek for this sort of thing in real life, too.

Because the TES games are honestly the ones I have played the most (2nd being the Civilization franchise). Lore makes the game SO much more immersive and you appreciate the story all the more.

And it is kind of like an Easter Egg Hunt, connecting the dots with developer posts, in-game books, and the plots/stories of the games themselves.

It's a lot like solving a jig-saw puzzle, lots of "a-ha!" moments and it's great fun to speculate and unleash your imagination.

When I first started playing the ES games, I was svcked in by the vast (and often contradictory) history and mythology that the games have. I'm a bit of a geek for 'real world' history and mythology, so I don't think that it's too far of a stretch to say that interest in the 'real' has lead to interest in the fictitious. ;)

Like practically everyone else said, the story is great and it incredibly complex. Understanding the lore makes the games so much more enjoyable.

Every game adds on another layer of Lore, yet compliments (and sometimes contradicts) the storylines and lore of the previous games.

But overall, lore is what makes The Elder Scrolls stand out from the many bland games of our time.
