I get the start up screen, with the guy holding the gun and play, data, etc. i click play and get a black screen, and can hear audio, and can even start the game by fumbling around blindly and hitting enter. I have tried reinstalling steam, reinstalling new vegas, going to older versions of graphics card drivers, and having steam check the validity of my game cache. I have also tried some fixes that replaced a specific data file from nvnexus, somethign like d9ll3.....

I did notice that the graphics settings detect my card as an 8600 gt, and im using a 560 ti. Again, ive updated and downgraded drivers to no effect. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The d3d9.dll fix is why the game detects your card as a 8600 gt. It sounds like your monitor is being forced into a resolution it doesnt support.
Have you tested a lower resolution? Does this happen with and without the d3d9.dll fix? THe fix btw is supposed to help with game stuttering not fix black screens.
I would just delete it until you fix your issue first.

Deleting D3D9 worked. don't know why it wasn't working before i applied it but its fine now. Thanks for the tip.
