NPC Jumping?.

Post » Fri Oct 14, 2011 1:08 am

Anyone know the reason why npc's don't jump in the elder scrolls?.now this is mainly targeted at companions/followers I don't usually take the beaten road/path.so most of the time I jump over rocks, houses, gates and I also jump to get over steep hills and I hate the fact the the npc will actually take the most dangerious enemie riddled path to get to me.anybody think it would be possible for bethesda to make npc to dynamiclly jump?.

Game takes place in Skyrim. Skyrim there is Nords who is scandinavian lookalike.
Scandinavians are white. White boy can't jump.

Srsly tho, I really hope companions jump over obstacles. Or at least glitch through them instead of running huge way around.

I guess it's not impossible for them to add it but it would be very difficult. Creating the action and time it for when/where/how far/how high would be a phenomenal task considering how many NPC's there are in the game.

Programming hell.

Really, think about why there are no solid companion jumpy mods for bethesda games.

Maybe on a new engine.

Deadly Reflex (Oblivion mod) gave NPCs the ability to "jump" to clear small obstacles (from what I understand it was more of a workaround than actually giving them the ability to jump, though).

I'll still play the [censored] out of this game if there is or isn't a jump feature.I just wish there was a easier way for a companion to follow you instead of going around the whole mountain when you found a shortcut..and I'm not really expecting it in skyrim.but it would be nice.

Couldn't they make the npc just follow your exact path down to the exact point at where you jumped? If the npc's could track your speed it seems like it would work fine. Idk anything about programing just thinkin out loud

Like others have said, it would require a lot of work with the AI to get them to jump right. Many variables in a jump, wouldn't want crappy AI misjudging a jump and falling off a cliff now would we?

Does no one agree that it'll look incredibly stupid unless they change the animation, altitude and lenght of a jump based on the object that is to be jumped over, also including armour factor. (Have fun trying to jump over a boulder with heavy armour.)

So to avoid it looking utterly rediculous I'd prefer they not do it. :(

I'm a Norwegian and I'm so offended... Jk, but I would wish for our ocmpanions to jump a little. Not guards, civilans or anything like that though as that would look rediculous. Why? Because we don't look at our companions while they jump over something, we run/walk and look straight forward (which kind of ruins it other than the fact that they can get faster around)

I agree. it would look incredibly ridiculous but if it keeps my companoin/follower from leaving my side and dying from god knows what because he's half way across the landscape and I won't be able to get to them in time. then to me it would be totally worth it.

No I don't mean everyone just your companions and the quest related npc's that have to follow you.
