Hair physics?

Post » Fri Oct 14, 2011 3:09 am

All the things weve seen of long hair is usually just pictures, not videos so we don't know of it's static or not.
I hope their hair sways in the wind and is pretty.

Fairly positive that hair is static. You can just tell from Screenshots.

This. From the point of view of technical limitation I can see why they chose to lose something that would damage FPS for such a small return like this.

From a childish point of view I want to have my cake and eat it. I do think they could have made hair look slightly better - in the earlier pictures with the guy sneaking in the forest - the guys hair looks like a slimey blond slug has been glued to his head and neck.

Long hair is a nono for me, since it's seemingly attached to your characters spinal chord.

Skyrim is not only on the dated hardware of the Consoles, but is also a Direct X 9 game.

Can hair physics via tesselation be done in a tech demo? Sure.

Can it be done well in a DX11 game without destroying frame rates or having to crank back other things? Incredibly doubtful. Wait a few years.

I'm just glad we've got long hair, I don't care if it isn't especially pretty, which it probably won't be. I don't like being forced to have short hair.

That sounds so cool.

I got so annoyed in Oblivion when your character had a longish ponytail and it sunk into his back when he ran. I would only ask that that doesn't happen anymore. Anything more than that would be awesome though.

Skyrim uses Direct x11.

IGN: Will the PC version support DirectX 11?

Todd Howard: Yes, but I guess the real question here is do we take advantage of DX11's big new features and the answer is 'not specifically'. Our graphics work centers around doing things that will look the same regardless of platform, and sometimes that implementation will be different on the 360, PS3, and PC.

Skyrim uses Direct x11.

They're talking about adding in some simple DX11 support, but it doesn't natively use DX11 or its features.

It just means if you have a DX11 card, you'll get some considerable gains out of the performance.

Hair can deform now. It won't sink into your back anymore.

Long wavy hair, just like mine. C:
Anyways... not right now, I don't think the modders can do such thing, adding hair physics.

Yeah if the game doesn't have hair physics there's no way I'm buying it. ;)

Yeah, you're right. Back in April, Todd said that it was Direct x9 in terms of how the shaders and everything work, but with Direct X11 there is a performance gain.

I thin that hair will be static.

I think that we can expect things like clothes/hair physics and better physics in general in TES 6, but not in Skyrim.
I also hope that we will be able to check rest of our body when we look down in TES 6.
