Direwolves?

Post » Fri Oct 14, 2011 9:33 pm

I used the search and didn't see a topic on this. We know there will be mammoths, and sabre tooth tigers but what about those other prehistoric creatures, direwolves?
Has any one heard anything about if they will be in Skyrim or not? I think they would fit Skyrim's feel nicely. Thoughts?

Would be awesome, and you're right, they'd definitely fit the setting well.

Please no Direwolves!
Next thing we know Bran Stark and Jon Snow will be modded in the game.

Morrowinds expansion Bloodmoon had a creature called a "Tusked Bristleback" which was essentially a wild boar, and then of course Oblivion had boars. I would be quite surprised if Skyrim had no boars!

Heh, they probably will be any way man! Of course it would be kind of hard to do Bran I think given his unfortunate circumstances for the majority of the books.

You know, the bear in that screenshot of the bound bow looked similar to one of those to me. Maybe I just imagined it, I don't know.

Yeah, it does look like it to a certain degree, but it seems a bit small in the screenshot.

I am not aware of any Direwolves in Skyrim lore though it is an intriguing idea. But with the Dragons and Giants it would be a bit A Song of Ice and Fireish, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. In Bloodmoon, an expansion for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, there were ordinary wolves and then there were Snow Wolves. Snow Wolves were larger, stronger, faster and also had a bite that could freeze flesh. Bloodmoon took place on the island of Solstheim which rest between Skyrim and the Morrowind province of Vvardenfel. It would be no stretch to say that many if not all inhabitants of the island were originally from Skyrim, so hopefully Snow Wolves, and Snow Bears, will be featured.

Haha, aren't they supposed to be very slow?

Screenshot was at a weird angle, maybe that is why it looked different than a Grizzly to me.

And snow wolf pelts made an excellent set of light armor!

Dire wolves were bigger than regular wolves, so think like the Timber wolves in Oblivion except a bit bigger and tougher.

Angle or not, I hope Bethesda makes bears larger. Even http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdjmbjXzGgU seem larger then the one in that picture.

Actually that’s a coastal brown bear, but it’s a common mistake to get them confused.
