Collector's Edition Worth it?

Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 3:48 am

Not worth it unless it's extremely limited.

Look at the Halo CE, The Call of duty Ce's, etc.

you can find most game CE's post-release for MUCH MUCH less, as they take up a LOT of store shelf space and stores will throw them on clearance downt he road when they need that room.

The only exception is tehy make LIMITED editions, that are actually....limited, like the first Bioshock or the first WoW CE.

On top of this, the statue itself i smade of PVC, which is the lower quality material used in cheaper statues. As someone who collects statues (Sideshow/Bowen, etc) the PVC statues are generally a lot cheaper/easier to make and are lesser quality.

Also, in my opinion, a video game shouldn't cost more than 60€ and CE of that game shouldn't cost more than 100€.
CE should also be made out of at least:
- Art book.
- Soundtrack CD.
- Behind the scenes DVD.
- One or two extra items which are have something to do with the game.

As you can see, Skyrim doesn't even cover the basics (no soundtrack CD), but costs much more than CEs which do.
I'm sorry, but that's called ripping off.

I personally won't buy Skyrim CE as a matter of principle (I don't like being ripped off).
If soundtrack CD was also part of the CE and it cost 100€ instead of 150€, then I would gladly pay for it!
But now, no way!

Normal edition, on the other hand, is worth it's money! ^_^

I have to say, if they had included the soundtrack in the CE, I definitely would have considered it since the music that we have heard so far is pretty amazing. The statue just doesn't impress me (a demo-Dovahkiin statue would have been pretty cool), art books are like the things I care for the least in a CE, and it's $150. Just not personally worth it to me. I love TES, but I'm content with just getting the faux-burlap map for preordering the normal edition.

I think the most objective way to look at it is to compartmentalize the cost and anolyze each bit's worth to you if it were sold separately.

At $150, we could say:
$60 for the base game
$10-15 for the making of DVD
$25-30 for the art book (depending on DVD estimate)
$50 for the statue.

For me, it is not worth it. I have no interest in the statue at any price, but I certainly wouldn't purchase it for $50 if it was sold separately. I'd like to see the DVD content, but it will be on Youtube shortly after release (they always are); owning the physical disc isn't of worth to me.

Like many others, I'd probably spring for the art book if it was sold separately, but maybe not even for $25. I'd be okay with a $25+ MSRP that saw discounted prices on Amazon, etc.

You should also consider previous luxury CEs. Is that Halo helmet still worth $70 to you today? If so, this might be the right purchase, but for everyone else it's probably best to pass.

No, the CE is probably not worth it, but it's a luxury good. It could be $200 and still sell a good number.

Voted Yes its worth it, but thats because im a die hard fan.

Would be even more worth it if they throw in the soundtrack and maybe a novel of "The Infernal City".

The statue is made of high quality PVC, which is basicilly the best material for that stuff. The art book is what: 200 pages? the game is priced 60$. So 90$ for a 200 pages art book, a high quality dragon statue and CD making of is a real bargain if you ask me. Some shops would price for the statue 150 bucks.

But hey, that depends on your priorities.

It's personal opinion on whether it's worth it or not. I'm personally buying it because I fell into some spare cash and would probably regret not buying it if I could.

lol, this is the elder scrolls 5 we're talking about!

a game that has been discussed to death since oblivion!

every aspect and tiny detail of this game is filled with PASSION, GLORY and REJOICE ON BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS!

i have been saving money for a long time now and to this day i had no idea on what to spend it on until now...

this is BY FAR the best collectors edition of a game that my eyes have layed witness to!

if you're a fan of assassins creed or saints row, or you're looking forward to the halo remake, the money you save alone will buy you one of those games :celebration:

Looks great to me. Have had a per-order over a month after looking at it objectively and figuring the pieces separately are probably worth $125-$140ish.

Yes it's probably over-priced, but it's a TES game so I wont bicker and complain for a couple bucks I will simply enjoy. :vaultboy:

If you want any of the collectors editions I would recommend moving to another country, they get all the better collectors edition goodies (Namely the Russian version). The one we can get in the US is not even close to being worth the price.
