This is off-topic, but I like your avatar. AOM is still one of my favorite games of all time.

Thanks. I was looking for a AoM pic to use, but I finally decided just to make a gif of all the major gods.

Lol at the people saying "But there in teh Harry Potter!!1!" as if those books somehow invented wands. Wands have been a part of a myths, stories and religions for thousands of years, they aren't some newly invented plot item from a mediocre children's series. Saying something like "Harry Potter had them and therefore Skyrim inherently shouldn't" is silly.

I wouldn't mind wands as a weapon, they could have a faster cast rate than a staff but lower power.

I don't really mind wands. Why do people think "Harry Potter" as soon as they hear the word "wand"? How damaged have you become? D: It's like thinking Twilight when you hear Werewolf or Vampire. It's wrong. However, I'm happy with the staves/staffs(whatever it is).

It's funny that you link shows concept art of a necromancer holding a pretty wicked looking staff.

But on topic Harry Potter did a good job of making wand completely lame and well slightly a feminine as well. Watching those movies and seeing these all powerful men of magic holding wand in a threatening manner just makes me what to laugh

Staffs make you look wise and experienced wands would make you look childish and like a student

They likely won't be, but I think it'd be a nice addition and another option for mages rather than staves. I'd certainly support some D&D style wands.

Also, Harry Potter did not invent wands, people

It'd be nice to have sone extra chargeable spells to blast, and you could dual wield them!

I would be ok with wands if they were used correctly. Say, making spells more powerful but removing the option to dual wield. Pretty much for pure mage characters only.

I don't think anyone thinks Harry Potter invented wands, but I still don't see the point of them being in ES. The fact is, wands are now associated with Hogwart's and magicians like Gob. It would seem out of place if an NPC started waving a short stick around in Skyrim.

There is no need for wands since we already have staffs.

Wands do not belong in a mature fantasy setting. Maybe if I'm playing a toddler game, sure.

So, because it's conveniently smaller than a gigantic branch, it makes it childish?

On a side note, this thread has reminded me to DL the HP movies in order to watch them all.
