Anyone else really excited about crafting?

Not especially excited, but any gameplay addition is nice.

Looking at the perks, it sounds like you'll need perks in Smithing to create new weapons and armour (of certain materials). Will you also need perks to improve weapons and armour? Looking at the perks, it looks like you won't.

I love making my own potions/poisons and am also interested in doing a little enchanting too. Not so sure about smithing as it looks like just to use other materials I'll have to take perks and I just would rather spend those points on other skills. I hope I can at least give the materials to a smith in town and he'll make what I want. Obviously not as good as if I had a perk for it but it would still give me a reason to collect and would still make me feel a little more attached to my equipment

I can't wait to forge my own armor and sword! Wonder if we'll (finally) be able to change the color of our armor and clothing (and maybe weapons?).

Has that been confirmed that we can change our equipment color or are you talking about pc modding?

Definitely, I believe the feature will be implemented with great care, and be revolutionary not only to the series, but RPGs in general. (Similar to what Dragonborn1 said) It will definitely expand the game.

I like crafting a lot but I'm hoping it'll be possible to do it in a convenient location. In Fallout3, you could have a workbench right inside your place in Megaton with a locker near the bench to hold all the stuff you could use to make something. There were benches also in places around the wasteland too. In Fallout New Vegas, you had to craft at campfires and/or benches depending on the item and they weren't always conveniently located so you had to carry around all the supplies in your inventory until you found a campfire. Luckily the companions could carry a lot. If it's possible to have a crafting table inside or near where you live, I'm going to love it. If they've done it a different way that's convenient, I'll like that too.

i am cautiously excited about it. i will probably make a character dedicated to this but i keep thinking in the back of my mind that it will be like alchemy and be basic. if you are able to mix-and--match parts of armor and weapons or change color then i will probably make it a mainstay on my warrior character.

I just hope I don't have to take every Smithing perk to get Dragon quality merchandise.

It'll be Alchemy and Enchanting gear mostly but I'll use a forge too. However it's done, I'll be doing it but I sure would like to not have to be encumbered and looking for a workbench. I'm always lugging too much stuff around. :D

As long as it doesn't up like craftings in MMORPG's, then i'm very excited. I hope cooking will allow us to make our own recipes to experiment with, I wanna make a stew with nirnroot, some mushrooms, and maybe other plants.

I actually think you can only cook meat since one of the demo videos showed uncooked and cooked meats in inventory, I don't think we can make like pies and sweetrolls or even stews but then again I could be wrong. I'm really excited for crafting, enchanting and alchemy.

My main skills that I will be focusing on are going to be:

Blacksmithing
Alchemy
Enchanting
Block
Destruction (Lightning)

So yeah, at least on my first playthrough, a big part of my experience is going to be taking advantage of crafting.

Well op, there's a few thing you should understand. When you mine ore all you do is go up to a deposit (most likely a different color then normal rock surface) and hit the activate button(so x). So long as you have a pick axe you'll mine some ore. Perhaps they mad an animation, so that will play and then a message like "you received 5 iron ore" pops up. Same goes with cutting wood. Find the cutting wood area, activate on the log, "you received 5 wood".

Im thinking the system they will use is basically like the total conversion mod nehrims. It sounds almos like a carbon copy. We just activate on the workbenches etc, and select what to build in a menu. I'm worried smithing will be limited and boring, but I hope it's really involved. I just have a feeling we are only going to be able to create 2 versions of each ore type(light/heavy) for armors, and long/short swords and daggers. I hope they've spent a lot of time and come up with literally thousands of possibilities.

If I can make an iron dagger, with a leather grip, that has a bone hilt, with gold inlay, and diamond encrusted, with a nice little pink tassel hanging off the bottom then I'll be very impressed lol :). I just think it's going to be like 50 generic things we can make though. Hope I'm wrong.

It's sounds so good and it's most likely very well done also, and I think that mods will make it even greater.

I'm stoked about crafting. My first playthrough will have all three crafting trees maxed, because I'm very curious how far it can go. I want to have a completely self-sufficient type character, who only makes money off of vendors, rather than spending a dime.

I figure it'll be a grind at points, but the endgame should see me decked out in top-of-the-line gear. (And loaded with cash from selling my skill-gaining remnants.)

All 3?
I thought that there were only two - Smith and Enchant.

OT:
This is one of my favorite features in Skyrim by far!
I've always wanted to make my own swords and enchant them (I won't be crafting anything except swords). ^_^

If done well, then there isn't going to be any need for mods. ;)
