Skyrim : Remastered

Post » Tue Oct 18, 2011 12:44 am

Do you think that Bethseda could keep us all going by porting Skyrim onto the next gen of consoles that will pop up this year or the next ? They wouldn't have to improve the graphics, but maybe the draw distances of the grass and stuff like that, and also add in things that are too resource intensive for the current gen consoles. Like you could make the Radiant Story ( a simplified version ) for NPCs and stuff like that. It would also be available on the pc.

i think that idea is absolutely brilliant, of course next gen consoles should support the pc graphics of this game... so...

Edit: i'm not exactly a console gamer myself, but if i was a hardcoe console gamer i know i'd want this. however from a reallistic viewpoint they should only o it depending on how long it'd take, after all, what if it wasn't worth the time they spent on it and they should've just been making another game instead, or an expansion even. whit if the people who get the next gen of consoles wont buy it since they already own it on the x360 or ps3 :read:

But that would take YEARS, were as this would take no more than 6 months, and then people could play happily on their Xbow 720 / PS4 for the next 5 years, till the next TES.

This.

Why would they spend time and effort and redoing a game that they've only just released? Especially as the teams are already being rotated on the next project.

Besides, the next gen of Xbox and PS isn't likely to even surface as an announcement until late 2012 at the earliest. Both Sony and MS have just spent millions marketing motion controls for their current systems, they wouldn't have done that if the next gen releases were that close.

Couldn't the console makers just have backwards compatibility, and then Beth releases a patch with improved draw distance, even new textures etc?

Or just take that $700 for the new console, and buy a pc and download some graphics mods! Or buy it on pc 11/11/11 and wait for the first graphics mods to hit. Next gen graphics, today! Or wait to 2014 to experience 2011 graphics? :(

They should focus on FO4 and then on TES VI instead.
If there are games which need to get remastered, then those are Arena and Daggerfall (and maybe Morrowind).
I would gladly pay money for that (especially for Daggerfall)!

Plus, I think that they said that purpose of Skyrim is that they do everything they wanted to do in this generation which they couldn't do before.

um....am i really the only human left who doesnt feel the need to remaster everything older than my aging cat? hell no i wouldnt want beth to repackage a game they've already made and sell it again with minor technical improvements. skyrim is going to last us years of fun already, why on earth would you want to port over a game you might still be playing and not say, something actually old that could benefit from modern technology? arena, daggerfall, morrowind... the games that look like random piles of polygons and pixels and are still enslaved to glitchy engines, why not them first?

what is with this freakin craze of remaking things that dont need to be remade?! you know there is going to be like 3 GOTY versions and you want a remastered version IN ADDITION to those and not say, allowing beth more time to work on the next elder scrolls instead? why?!

WHY?! :flame:

I would very much like a remastered Morrowind.

For all the Morrowind haters out there... Stop hating, its only a game :)

Why would any TES player hate Morrowind?
Morrowind and Daggerfall are by far two best TES games in the series.
Skyrim can be only as good as them (in best case scenario), but not better.

I would be happy if they remastered Skyrim, but I believe they will do it the same way as MW: Just patch it so it can be played on the new console.

I'm not a big fan of remastered rereleases, unless its at a greatly discounted price. Its nice to get others exposed to some classic games, but at the same time i would prefer them working on new games, not rehashing old ones.

No. I'd rather they get to work on FO4 or TES VI....

Modders can deal with that for PC version

Considering the amount of work that has gone into making Skyrim available to us now, on this generation, I would say no. I would much rather wait another four, five, even six years now, until the next chapter of the Elder Scrolls comes out on the next gen. I want to enjoy what Beth have created here and now, and not think about how much better it could be, because that is negative to the development of the game.

So, I like the idea, but not for Skyrim. The next TES would be perfect to implement those thing on the next gen.

Recently you can find some new "HD" version of years old game being released. They are kinda the same with just better textures mostly, at best few new models and recent Windows version compatibility issue resolved.
If that's what you mean for a Skyrim HD on a nextgen console with for example just increasing the quality of the texture and better distant view. Why not if it can bring Bethesda some more $$$ easily.

But if you're talking about an almost complete remake like it would be necessary to do for Morrowind or Oblivion. Then no I don't see the point, I think a new TES would be better.

Why waste the Dev time? Not to mention it is time better spent on DLC development for Skyrim. They should save remastering for games that are years old. The graphical differences would likely not be great enough to warrant the time and money spent on them. Plus, I would likely not buy it for a next gen console; I would want to buy ES VI on my next gen instead.

Nope. As a simple design principle, Bethesda have stated that each province only gets one shot at glory, meaning one game. So no revisiting old titles, no matter what the case. They made the choice to design Skyrim for this generation of consoles, so when it is done I really don't think they will back track and redesign anything. They may add a few features in expansions in the future, but beyond that they will most likely leave the core game as it is on launch.

Yes if they only up the graphic settings to pc-standard. I.e. Change the textures and settings. That shouldn't take much time. The problem that I see is that the next gen consoles is NOT coming this year or the next. Okay, it might appear around the hollidays next year, but 2013 or 2014 is much more likely. In that case, they could almost be done with FO4 and should focus on that.
